Origin & Story

Traditional Braj devotional aarti (Aarti Sangrah), sung in the temples of Barsana and Vrindavan ยท Traditional / Anonymous ยท Medieval to modern (within the Vaishnava Bhakti tradition)

Shri Radha, born to King Vrishabhanu and Mother Kirti in Barsana, is the eternal beloved of Lord Krishna and the supreme embodiment of devotional love in the Braj tradition. This aarti, sung at her temples in Barsana and Vrindavan, celebrates her divine beauty and her place as the queen of the Raas-leela, and expresses the Braj devotee's longing for the joint darshan of Radha and Krishna.

โœฆ As told in scripture

It is lovingly told in Braj that Krishna runs to wherever the name and aarti of Radha are sung, for he is bound by her love; thus devotees believe that by glorifying Radha first, the grace of Krishna follows of its own accord.

Frequently Asked Questions

This page shows the complete Radha Rani Aarti written in the Grantha script โ€” the same Sanskrit/Hindi verses, transliterated character-by-character so you can read and chant comfortably. Tap any line (or the โ–ถ button) to hear it recited aloud.
Yes โ€” only the script changes; the words and their meaning are the original. The verse-by-verse meaning, benefits and how-to-chant guidance on this page apply exactly the same.
Radha is the daughter of King Vrishabhanu and Mother Kirti of Barsana, and the eternal consort and beloved of Lord Krishna. In the Bhakti tradition she is revered as Hladini Shakti โ€” the very embodiment of Krishna's bliss and the highest ideal of pure, selfless love (prema).
In Braj it is customary to say 'Radhe Radhe' and to honour Radha first, because she personifies devotion itself. It is believed that Krishna is most easily pleased and most readily approached through the grace and recommendation of Radha Rani.
It is sung daily in the temples of Barsana and Vrindavan, and with the greatest devotion on Radhashtami โ€” the appearance day of Shri Radha โ€” which falls on the eighth day of the bright fortnight of Bhadrapada month.
Tradition holds that one who lovingly sings Radha's aarti receives the joint darshan of Radha and Krishna and is blessed with prema-bhakti โ€” pure, unconditional devotion โ€” which is considered the highest goal of the Braj tradition.
