What is the Om Jai Jagdish Hare Aarti?

The Om Jai Jagdish Hare is the most universally sung aarti in Hindu worship. An aarti is a ritual of offering a circular flame before the deity while singing devotional praise — symbolising the offering of one's ego and illuminating the divine form.

This aarti is sung in virtually every Hindu household during daily puja, in temples across India and wherever Hindus gather to worship. Composed in the mid-19th century by Shradha Ram Phillauri, it is addressed to Lord Vishnu (Jagdish — Lord of the Universe) but is considered universally applicable to any deity.
