This is the most beloved portion of the Narayani Stuti from Chapter 11 of the Durga Saptashati, in which Indra and the gods salute the Goddess in each of her cosmic Matrika (Mother) forms — Brahmani, Maheshwari, Kaumari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Narasimhi, Aindri, Shivaduti and Chamunda — every verse closing with the refrain 'Narayani Namostute.' Each form bears the weapon, vehicle and power of a great god, revealing that all the divine energies are one Goddess.

After the Goddess slays the great asura Shumbha, Indra and the gods — their lotus-faces beaming with joy — pour out the Narayani Stuti in praise of Katyayani. In this central portion they salute her in each of her cosmic Mother-forms (the Matrikas), the very energies that had emerged from the gods to fight Raktabija and the demon hosts, recognising that the single Goddess Narayani manifests as Brahmani, Maheshwari, Kaumari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Narasimhi, Aindri, Shivaduti and Chamunda.

Devotees hold that reciting these verses surrounds them with the protective power of all the Mother-forms at once — Brahmani's serenity, Vaishnavi's preservation and Chamunda's fierce destruction of evil — so that, as the gods were rescued from the demon armies, the worshipper too is shielded on every side from danger.

Meaning:હે હંસ જોડેલા વિમાન પર વિરાજમાન, બ્રાહ્મણી રૂપ ધારણ કરનારી, કુશ-જળથી અભિષેક કરનારી દેવી! હે નારાયણિ! તમને નમસ્કાર છે. હે ત્રિશૂળ, ચંદ્ર અને સર્પ ધારણ કરનારી, મહાન વૃષભ પર સવાર માહેશ્વરી રૂપવાળી! હે નારાયણિ! તમને નમસ્કાર છે. હે મયૂર અને કૂકડાથી ઘેરાયેલી, મહાશક્તિ ધારણ કરનારી, નિષ્પાપ કૌમારી રૂપમાં સ્થિત! હે નારાયણિ! તમને નમસ્કાર છે. હે શંખ, ચક્ર, ગદા અને શાર્ઙ્ગ રૂપ પરમ આયુધ ધારણ કરનારી! પ્રસન્ન થાઓ, હે વૈષ્ણવી રૂપવાળી! હે નારાયણિ! તમને નમસ્કાર છે. હે ઉગ્ર મહાચક્ર ધારણ કરનારી, દાઢથી પૃથ્વીને ઊંચકનારી, કલ્યાણી વરાહ (વારાહી) રૂપવાળી! હે નારાયણિ! તમને નમસ્કાર છે. હે ઉગ્ર નૃસિંહ રૂપથી દૈત્યોના વધમાં ઉદ્યત, ત્રૈલોક્યની રક્ષાથી યુક્ત! હે નારાયણિ! તમને નમસ્કાર છે. હે મુકુટ ધારણ કરનારી, મહાન વજ્ર ધારણ કરનારી, સહસ્ર નેત્રોથી ઉજ્જ્વળ, વૃત્રના પ્રાણ હરનારી ઐન્દ્રી! હે નારાયણિ! તમને નમસ્કાર છે. હે શિવદૂતી રૂપથી દૈત્યોના મહાબળનો નાશ કરનારી, ઘોર રૂપ અને મહાનાદવાળી! હે નારાયણિ! તમને નમસ્કાર છે. હે દાઢોથી વિકરાળ મુખવાળી, મુંડમાળાથી વિભૂષિત, મુંડનું મર્દન કરનારી ચામુંડે! હે નારાયણિ! તમને નમસ્કાર છે.
