oṃ ṛṣiruvāca niśumbhaṃ nihataṃ dṛṣṭvā bhrātaraṃ prāṇasammitam hanyamānaṃ balaṃ caiva śumbhaḥ kruddho'bravīdvacaḥ

(ಓಂ. ಋಷಿಯು ಹೇಳಿದನು:) ತನಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣದಂತೆ ಪ್ರಿಯನಾದ ತನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರ ನಿಶುಂಭನು ಕೊಲ್ಲಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದನ್ನೂ, ತನ್ನ ಸೈನ್ಯವು ನಾಶವಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನೂ ನೋಡಿ, ಶುಂಭನು ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡು ಈ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿದನು:
