Lord Hanuman Mantras

Hanuman was born to the vanara queen Anjana and blessed by Vayu, the wind-god, and so is called Anjaneya and Pavanputra, the son of the wind. Even as an infant his strength was boundless. One morning, hungry, the baby Hanuman looked up and saw the rising sun glowing red like a ripe fruit; mistaking it for something to eat, he leapt up into the sky to seize it.

That very day was an eclipse, and Rahu had come to swallow the sun. Seeing the child rushing at it, Indra, king of the gods, hurled his thunderbolt and struck Hanuman upon the jaw, sending him tumbling to earth. Enraged that his son was harmed, Vayu withdrew the air from the world, and all creation began to suffocate. To appease him, the gods gathered and each blessed the child with a boon — invincibility, undying fame, immeasurable strength, and the freedom to choose the manner of his own death — so that Hanuman grew into the mightiest of the mighty.

It is from the blow upon his hanu (jaw) that he received the name Hanuman. Endowed with the gods' every blessing, he became the supreme devotee of Lord Rama — the very embodiment of strength, devotion and selfless service, who needs only the name of Rama to accomplish the impossible.
