Gandmool nakshatras lie at the junctions (gandanta) of the zodiac signs and are ruled by Ketu and Mercury. When a child is born while the Moon is in one of them, Gandmool dosha is formed; by tradition Mool Shanti puja is performed when the same nakshatra returns (about 27 days later).
