Sheetla Mata, 'the cool one,' is the Goddess (a form of Durga) who both wards off and heals fevers, pox and epidemic diseases — riding a donkey and bearing a broom, winnow, pot and neem leaves. On Sheetla Ashtami (Basoda), devotees offer her cooling, day-before food and worship her for the health and protection of their children and homes.

It is said that those stricken with fever, pox or skin disease who take Sheetla Mata's refuge are healed — even the leper made pure and the blind given sight. On Basoda, no fresh fire is lit; cool food prepared the day before is offered, and this aarti is sung for the family's health.

Meaning:రత్నఖచిత సింహాసనంపై శోభిల్లే, శ్వేత ఛత్రం ప్రకాశించే; ఋద్ధి-సిద్ధి చామరం వీచుచుండగా, నీ ప్రకాశవంతమైన రూపం వెలుగొందుతోంది.
विष्णु सेवत ठाढ़े सेवें शिव धाता । वेद पुराण वरणत पार नहीं पाता ॥

Meaning:విష్ణువు నిలబడి సేవిస్తాడు, శివుడు, బ్రహ్మ సేవిస్తారు; వేద-పురాణాలు వర్ణిస్తాయి, అయినా నీ మహిమకు అంతు దొరకదు.
इन्द्र मृदंग बजावत चन्द्र वीणा हाथा । सूरज ताल बजावै नारद मुनि गाता ॥

Meaning:ఇంద్రుడు మృదంగం వాయిస్తాడు, చంద్రుడు చేతిలో వీణ; సూర్యుడు తాళం వేస్తాడు, నారద మునీశ్వరుడు గానం చేస్తాడు.
घण्टा शङ्ख शहनाई बाजै मन भाता । करैं भक्तजन आरती लखि लखि हर्षाता ॥

Meaning:గంట, శంఖం, షెహనాయి మ్రోగుతాయి, మనసుకు ఆహ్లాదం కలిగిస్తాయి; భక్తులు ఆరతి చేస్తారు, నిన్ను చూసి చూసి హర్షిస్తారు.
ब्रह्मरूप वरदानी तू ही तीन काल ज्ञाता । भक्तन को सुख देती मातु पिता भ्राता ॥
Brahmarupa varadani tu hi tina kala jnata Bhaktana ko sukha deti matu pita bhrata
Meaning:బ్రహ్మరూపిణీ, వరప్రదాత్రీ, నీవు మూడు కాలాల జ్ఞాత; భక్తులకు తల్లి, తండ్రి, సోదరునిగా సుఖాన్ని ఇస్తావు.
जो जन ध्यान लगावे प्रेम शक्ति पाता । सकल मनोरथ पावे भवनिधि तर जाता ॥
Jo jana dhyana lagave prema shakti pata Sakala manoratha pave bhavanidhi tara jata
Meaning:ప్రేమతో నీపై మనసు నిలిపేవాడు శక్తిని పొందుతాడు; అతడు సకల మనోరథాలను పొంది భవసాగరాన్ని దాటుతాడు.
रोगों से जो पीड़ित कोई शरण तेरी आता । कोढ़ी पावे निर्मल काया अन्ध नेत्र पाता ॥
Rogom se jo pida़ita koi sharana teri ata Kodha़i pave nirmala kaya andha netra pata
Meaning:రోగంతో బాధపడేవాడు నీ శరణు వస్తే — కుష్ఠురోగి నిర్మల దేహాన్ని పొందుతాడు, అంధుడు కన్నులు పొందుతాడు.
बाँझ पुत्र को पावे दारिद्र कट जाता । ताको भजै जो नाहीं सिर धुनि पछताता ॥
Banjha putra ko pave daridra kata jata Tako bhajai jo nahim sira dhuni pachhatata
Meaning:గొడ్రాలు పుత్రుని పొందుతుంది, దారిద్ర్యం తొలగిపోతుంది; నిన్ను భజించనివాడు తల బాదుకుని పశ్చాత్తాపపడతాడు.
शीतल करती जननी तू ही है जग त्राता । उत्पत्ति व्याधि बिनाशन तू सब की घाता ॥

Meaning:నీవు శీతలపరుస్తావు, ఓ జననీ, నీవే జగత్తుకు రక్షకురాలవు; నీవు సృష్టిస్తావు, వ్యాధిని నశింపజేస్తావు, సర్వానికి అంతమవు.
दास विचित्र कर जोड़े सुन मेरी माता । भक्ति आपनी दीजै और न कुछ भाता ॥
Dasa vichitra kara joda़e suna meri mata Bhakti apani dijai aura na kuchha bhata
Meaning:నీ దాసుడు విచిత్ర చేతులు జోడిస్తాడు — ఓ తల్లీ, నా మొర వినుము; నీ భక్తిని ప్రసాదించు, మరేదీ నాకు రుచించదు.

How to Chant శ్రీ శీతలా మాత ఆరతి
Light a lamp (ghee or camphor) and, holding it, perform the aarti by circling it before the deity while singing, ideally with a bell. Offer flowers and prasad, and conclude by taking the aarti blessing (passing the hands over the flame and to the eyes). Sing with devotion and a steady heart.
