Om Sahana Vavatu is the Shanti Mantra that opens the study of several Upanishads. In it, teacher and student pray together that the Divine protect and nourish them both, that they strive with shared vigour, that their study be luminous, and that they never fall into discord. It enshrines the sacred bond of the guru-shishya relationship and the ideal of harmonious learning.

અર્થ:ૐ. તે પરમાત્મા આપણા બંનેનું (ગુરુ-શિષ્ય) રક્ષણ કરે; આપણા બંનેનું પોષણ કરે; આપણે સાથે મળી મહા ઉત્સાહથી પ્રયત્ન કરીએ; આપણું અધ્યયન તેજસ્વી બને; આપણે પરસ્પર દ્વેષ ન કરીએ. ૐ શાંતિ, શાંતિ, શાંતિ.
