अघमर्षण सूक्तम्

ऋतं च सत्यं चाभीद्धात्तपसोऽध्यजायत ।

अग्नि सूक्तम् (अग्निमीळे)

अप्रतिरथ सूक्तम्

ॐ आशुः शिशानो वृषभो न भीमो घनाघनः क्षोभणश्चर्षणीनाम्।

Invokes Indra's invincible valour for victory in righteous battles and struggles • Traditionally recited before war or any difficult contest for triumph over the enemy

भाग्य सूक्तम्

प्रातरग्निं प्रातरिन्द्रं हवामहे प्रातर्मित्रावरुणा प्रातरश्विना ।

Invokes Bhaga, the Vedic deity of fortune, prosperity and one's rightful share of good things • Recited at dawn for an auspicious and successful start to the day

भू सूक्तम्

ॐ भूमिर्भूम्ना द्यौर्वरिणान्तरिक्षं महित्वा।

Invokes the blessings of Bhumi Devi (Mother Earth) for stability, security and a firm foundation in life • Traditionally recited at bhumi puja and griha pravesh (house-warming) to sanctify land and home

देवी सूक्तम् (ऋग्वेदोक्त)

ॐ अहं रुद्रेभिर्वसुभिश्चराम्यहमादित्यैरुत विश्वदेवैः।

One of the supreme Vedic hymns establishing the Goddess as the all-pervading reality (Brahman) • Central to Navaratri, Chandi Path and all formal Devi worship

दुर्गा सूक्तम्

ॐ जातवेदसे सुनवाम सोममरातीयतो निदहाति वेदः ।

One of the most ancient prayers to Durga — from the Rigveda itself • 'Durgam Devim Sharanam Aham Prapadye' — ultimate surrender to Durga

हिरण्यगर्भ सूक्तम्

हिरण्यगर्भः समवर्तताग्रे भूतस्य जातः पतिरेक आसीत् ।

A supreme Vedic meditation on the one Creator (Hiranyagarbha / Prajapati) behind the universe • Deepens contemplation of the cosmic origin — the 'Golden Womb' from which all arose

इन्द्र सूक्तम् (यो जात एव)

ॐ यो जात एव प्रथमो मनस्वान्

Invokes Indra's strength, courage and the will to overcome every obstacle • Inspires victory in righteous struggles, as Indra conquered Vritra and Vala

मन्यु सूक्तम्

यस्ते मन्योऽविधद्वज्र सायक सह ओजः पुष्यति विश्वमानुषक्।

Bestows courage, valour and indomitable inner strength (ojas) • Grants victory over enemies — both external adversaries and inner foes like fear, anger and weakness

मेधा सूक्तम्

ॐ यश्छन्दसामृषभो विश्वरूपः।

Sharpens intellect (medha), memory and the power of grasping and retaining knowledge • Classic prayer of students before study, examinations and the start of any learning

नारायण सूक्तम्

ॐ सह नाववतु। सह नौ भुनक्तु। सह वीर्यं करवावहै।

One of the most important Vedic hymns establishing Vishnu/Narayana as supreme • Chanted during Vishnu abhishekam in all major temples

नासदीय सूक्तम्

नासदासीन्नो सदासीत्तदानीं नासीद्रजो नो व्योमा परो यत्।

Cultivates deep philosophical reflection on the origin of existence and the cosmos • Considered the high-water mark of Vedic metaphysical thought, prized by seekers of wisdom

पवमान सूक्तम् (पुनन्तु माम्)

ॐ यदन्ति यच्च दूरके भयं विन्दति मामिह।

Purifies the body, mind and speech from every side (mam punihi vishvatah) • Removes fear, both near and far (yadanti yachcha durake bhayam)

पृथ्वी सूक्तम् (भूमि सूक्त)

ॐ सत्यं बृहदृतमुग्रं दीक्षा तपो ब्रह्म यज्ञः पृथिवीं धारयन्ति।

Invokes the blessings of Mother Earth for stability, nourishment and a firm foundation in life • Cultivates deep reverence for nature and ecological harmony — a Vedic environmental prayer

पुरुष सूक्तम्

हरिः ॐ सहस्रशीर्षा पुरुषः सहस्राक्षः सहस्रपात् ।

The most important Vedic creation hymn — describes the origin of the universe • Chanted during major Vedic rituals, temple consecrations, and homas

रात्रि सूक्तम्

रात्री व्यख्यदायती पुरुत्रा देव्यक्षभिः ।

Invokes Ratri Devi, the goddess of the Night, for protection through the hours of darkness • Prayed for safety from wolves, thieves and unseen dangers ('yavaya stenam urmye')

रुद्र सूक्तम्

ॐ आ ते पितर्मरुतां सुम्नमेतु मा नः सूर्यस्य संदृशो युयोथाः।

Invokes Rudra (Shiva) as the supreme healer (bhishaktama) for health and recovery • Prayer for a long, healthy life of a hundred winters (shatam himah)

संज्ञान सूक्तम् (सङ्गच्छध्वम्)

ॐ सं गच्छध्वं सं वदध्वं सं वो मनांसि जानताम्।

Fosters unity, harmony and a spirit of cooperation within families, communities and nations • Dissolves conflict, division and discord by aligning minds and hearts toward a common goal

सरस्वती सूक्तम्

ॐ अम्बितमे नदीतमे देवितमे सरस्वति।

Invokes Goddess Saraswati for knowledge, wisdom and learning (vidya) • Bestows eloquence, clarity of speech and command over language

शिव सङ्कल्प सूक्तम्

यज्जाग्रतो दूरमुदैति दैवं तदु सुप्तस्य तथैवैति।

A direct Vedic prayer to purify and steady the mind, turning it toward auspicious (shiva) resolve • Chanted to free the mind of negative, scattered or harmful thoughts and to cultivate noble sankalpa (intention)

श्रद्धा सूक्तम्

श्रद्धया ग्निः समिध्यते श्रद्धया हूयते हविः ।

Invokes and strengthens Shraddha — deep faith, trust and earnest reverence — the root of all spiritual practice • Teaches that every act of worship, charity and sacrifice succeeds only through faith

श्री सूक्तम्

हिरण्यवर्णां हरिणीं सुवर्णरजतस्रजाम् ।

The most powerful Vedic hymn for invoking wealth and prosperity • Chanted during Lakshmi Puja, Diwali, and Dhanteras for maximum effect

तां म आवह जातवेदो

तां म आवह जातवेदो लक्ष्मीमनपगामिनीम् ।

A key verse of the Sri Suktam, the foremost Vedic prayer for wealth • Asks specifically for prosperity that 'never departs' (anapagaminim)

विष्णु सूक्तम्

ॐ विष्णोर्नु कं वीर्याणि प्र वोचं यः पार्थिवानि विममे रजांसि।
