Origin & Story
Traditional Hindi devotional aarti · Traditional · Devotional era
Mata Sita, the daughter of King Janaka of Mithila who arose from the earth, is the consort of Lord Rama and the supreme embodiment of wifely devotion, purity and sacrifice — following Rama into exile and enduring every trial for the sake of dharma. Worshipped as a form of Goddess Lakshmi, her aarti is sung with Rama's at the close of worship.
✦ As told in scripture
Sita's purity was such that fire itself could not touch her, and the earth opened to receive her at the last. Devotees sing her aarti for a blessed, harmonious married life and for the strength of patience and faith she embodies.
