In the eleventh chapter, Vishvarupa Darshana Yoga, after revealing and then withdrawing His universal form, Krishna explains its rarity. He tells Arjuna that such a vision cannot be gained through Vedic study, austerity, charity or sacrifice — leading into His declaration that only exclusive devotion can reveal Him thus.

The bhakti traditions cherish this verse as proof that loving devotion surpasses all other spiritual disciplines; for the Lord, who cannot be compelled by ritual or learning, willingly reveals Himself to the heart that loves Him with undivided devotion.

ଯେକୌଣସି ଧାଡ଼ି କିମ୍ବା ▶ ବଟନ୍ ଛୁଇଁ ଶୁଣନ୍ତୁ

ନାହଂ ଵେଦୈର୍ନ ତପସା ନ ଦାନେନ ନ ଚେଜ୍ଯଯା। ଶକ୍ଯ ଏଵଂଵିଧୋ ଦ୍ରଷ୍ଟୁଂ ଦୃଷ୍ଟଵାନସି ମାଂ ଯଥା॥

nāhaṁ vedair na tapasā na dānena na chejyayā śhakya evaṁ-vidho draṣhṭuṁ dṛiṣhṭavān asi māṁ yathā

ଅର୍ଥ:Neither by the Vedas, nor by austerity, nor by charity, nor by sacrifice can I be seen in this form as you have seen Me.

Chant this verse while reflecting on the rarity of the divine vision. As you recite, let it humble any pride in external religious performance and turn your heart toward loving devotion as the true means of knowing God. Read it together with the following verse (11.54), which reveals that exclusive devotion alone grants such a vision, and let devotion deepen in your practice.

ବାରମ୍ବାର ପଚରାଯାଉଥିବା ପ୍ରଶ୍ନ

ଏହି ପୃଷ୍ଠାରେ ସମ୍ପୂର୍ଣ Bhagavad Gita 11.53 — Naham Vedair Na Tapasa ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଲିପିରେ ଦିଆଯାଇଛି — ସେହି ମୂଳ ଶ୍ଳୋକ, ଅକ୍ଷର-ଅକ୍ଷର ଲିପ୍ୟନ୍ତରିତ, ଯାହାଦ୍ୱାରା ଆପଣ ସହଜରେ ପଢ଼ି ଜପ କରିପାରିବେ। ଯେକୌଣସି ଧାଡ଼ି (କିମ୍ବା ▶ ବଟନ୍) ଛୁଇଁ ତାହାର ପାଠ ଶୁଣନ୍ତୁ।

ହଁ — କେବଳ ଲିପି ବଦଳେ; ଶବ୍ଦ ଓ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଅର୍ଥ ମୂଳ ହିଁ ରହେ। ଏହି ପୃଷ୍ଠାର ଶ୍ଳୋକ-ଶ୍ଳୋକ ଅର୍ଥ, ଲାଭ ଓ ପାଠ ବିଧି ସମାନ ଭାବେ ପ୍ରଯୁଜ୍ୟ।

Krishna tells Arjuna that the cosmic universal form he has just seen cannot be beheld merely through the study of the Vedas, austerities, charity or sacrifices. Such a vision is exceedingly rare and not attained by external practices alone.

The very next verse (11.54) gives the answer: only by single-minded, exclusive devotion (ananya bhakti) can the Lord be truly known, seen and entered. This verse prepares the ground by showing the limits of other means.

It does not reject them but places them in perspective. Vedic study, austerity, charity and sacrifice are valuable, yet by themselves they cannot grant the direct vision of the Lord's supreme form. That vision comes through loving devotion, which the Gita exalts as the highest path.
