Sanskrit text with English transliteration and translation
Verse 1
bhae pragaṭa kṛpālā dīnadayālā kausalyā hitakārī
haraṣita mahatārī muni mana hārī adbhuta rūpa bicārī
locana abhirāmā tanu ghanasyāmā nija āyudha bhuja cārī
bhūṣana banamālā nayana bisālā sobhāsiṃdhu kharārī
The compassionate Lord, merciful to the meek and benefactor of Kausalya, became manifest. The mother was overjoyed, and pondering His wondrous form that steals the minds of sages, she beheld Him — delightful to the eyes, His body dark as a rain-cloud, bearing His weapons in four arms, adorned with ornaments and a forest-garland, with large eyes, that ocean of beauty, the slayer of Khara.
Verse 2
kaha dui kara jorī astuti torī kehi bidhi karauṃ anaṃtā
māyā guna gyānātīta amānā beda purāna bhanaṃtā
karunā sukha sāgara saba guna āgara jehi gāvahiṃ śruti saṃtā
so mama hita lāgī jana anurāgī bhayau pragaṭa śrīkaṃtā
With joined palms she said, 'O Infinite One, in what way can I sing Your praise? The Vedas and Puranas declare You beyond Maya, beyond the gunas, beyond knowledge, and immeasurable. That very Lord Sri-kanta — whom the scriptures and saints hail as the ocean of mercy and bliss and the abode of all virtues — has, for my sake and out of love for His devotees, become manifest.
Verse 3
brahmāṃḍa nikāyā nirmita māyā roma roma prati beda kahai
mama ura so bāsī yaha upahāsī sunata dhīra mati thira na rahai
upajā jaba gyānā prabhu musukānā carita bahuta bidhi kīnha cahai
kahi kathā suhāī mātu bujhāī jehi prakāra suta prema lahai
"The Vedas say that countless universes fashioned by Maya lie in each pore of Your body; that such a One should dwell within my womb seems a jest — hearing it, even the steadfast cannot keep their minds firm." When this knowledge arose in her, the Lord smiled, for He wished to enact many a sport (lila). So He told her a charming tale and consoled the mother in a way that she might receive (and treat Him with) a mother's love for her son.
