Verse 1
जटाधरं पाण्डुराङ्गं शूलहस्तं कृपानिधिम्। सर्वरोगहरं देवं दत्तात्रेयमहं भजे॥
Jataadharam Paanduraangam Shoola-hastam Kripaa-nidhim Sarva-roga-haram Devam Dattaatreyam-aham Bhaje
I worship Lord Dattatreya — bearer of matted locks, of fair body smeared with ash, holding a trident, the treasure-house of compassion, the divine remover of all diseases.
Verse 2
जगदुत्पत्तिकर्त्रे स्थितिसंहारहेतवे। भवपाशविमुक्ताय दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥१॥
Jagad-utpatti-kartre Cha Sthiti-samhaara-hetave Bhava-paasha-vimuktaaya Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (1)
To the creator of the universe, the cause of its sustenance and dissolution, the liberator from the bonds of worldly existence — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 3
जराजन्मविनाशाय देहशुद्धिकराय च। दिगम्बरदयामूर्ते दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥२॥
Jaraa-janma-vinaashaaya Deha-shuddhi-karaaya Cha Digambara-dayaa-moorte Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (2)
To the destroyer of old age and birth, the purifier of the body, O sky-clad embodiment of compassion — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 4
कर्पूरकान्तिदेहाय ब्रह्ममूर्तिधराय च। वेदशास्त्रपरिज्ञाय दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥३॥
Karpoora-kaanti-dehaaya Brahma-moorti-dharaaya Cha Veda-shaastra-parijnaaya Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (3)
To him whose body shines like camphor, who bears the form of Brahman, the knower of all the Vedas and scriptures — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 5
ह्रस्वदीर्घकृशस्थूल-नामगोत्र-विवर्जित। पञ्चभूतैकदीप्ताय दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥४॥
Hrasva-deergha-krisha-sthoola-naama-gotra-vivarjita Pancha-bhootaika-deeptaaya Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (4)
O you who are beyond short and long, lean and stout, beyond name and lineage, who shine as the one light within the five elements — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 6
यज्ञभोक्ते यज्ञाय यज्ञरूपधराय च। यज्ञप्रियाय सिद्धाय दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥५॥
Yajna-bhokte Cha Yajnaaya Yajna-roopa-dharaaya Cha Yajna-priyaaya Siddhaaya Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (5)
To him who is the enjoyer of sacrifice, the sacrifice itself, who assumes the form of sacrifice, the beloved of sacrifice, the perfected one — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 7
आदौ ब्रह्मा मध्ये विष्णुरन्ते देवः सदाशिवः। मूर्तित्रयस्वरूपाय दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥६॥
Aadau Brahmaa Madhye Vishnur-ante Devah Sadaashivah Moorti-traya-svaroopaaya Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (6)
Brahma in the beginning, Vishnu in the middle, and Sadashiva at the end — to him who is the very embodiment of the three forms (Trimurti) — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 8
भोगालयाय भोगाय योगयोग्याय धारिणे। जितेन्द्रियजितज्ञाय दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥७॥
Bhogaalayaaya Bhogaaya Yoga-yogyaaya Dhaarine Jitendriya-jita-jnaaya Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (7)
To the abode of enjoyment and the enjoyment itself, the one worthy of yoga who sustains all, the conqueror of the senses and of knowing — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 9
दिगम्बराय दिव्याय दिव्यरूपधराय च। सदोदितपरब्रह्म दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥८॥
Digambaraaya Divyaaya Divya-roopa-dharaaya Cha Sadodita-para-brahma Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (8)
To the sky-clad, the divine, who assumes a divine form, the ever-arisen Supreme Brahman — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 10
जम्बूद्वीपमहाक्षेत्रमातापुरनिवासिने। जयमानसतां देव दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥९॥
Jamboo-dveepa-mahaa-kshetra-maataa-pura-nivaasine Jaya-maanasataam Deva Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (9)
To him who dwells in the great holy field of Jambudvipa at Matapura (Mahur), O God who conquers the minds (of devotees) — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 11
भिक्षाटनं गृहे ग्रामे पात्रं हेममयं करे। नानास्वादमयी भिक्षा दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥१०॥
Bhikshaatanam Grihe Graame Paatram Hema-mayam Kare Naanaa-svaada-mayee Bhikshaa Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (10)
Who goes begging from house to house in the village with a golden bowl in hand, whose alms are of many flavours — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 12
ब्रह्मज्ञानमयी मुद्रा वस्त्रे चाकाशभूतले। प्रज्ञानघनबोधाय दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥११॥
Brahma-jnaana-mayee Mudraa Vastre Cha-aakaasha-bhootale Prajnaana-ghana-bodhaaya Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (11)
Whose hand shows the seal of knowledge of Brahman, whose garment is the sky and whose seat is the earth, who is dense, awakened consciousness — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 13
अवधूतसदानन्दपरब्रह्मस्वरूपिणे। विदेहदेहरूपाय दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥१२॥
Avadhoota-sadaananda-para-brahma-svaroopine Videha-deha-roopaaya Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (12)
To the avadhuta of the nature of ever-blissful Supreme Brahman, embodied yet bodiless (videha) — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 14
सत्यरूपसदाचारसत्यधर्मपरायण। सत्याश्रयपरोक्षाय दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥१३॥
Satya-roopa-sadaachaara-satya-dharma-paraayana Satyaashraya-parokshaaya Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (13)
O you who are of the form of truth, of righteous conduct, devoted to the true Dharma, the refuge of truth and beyond perception — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 15
शूलहस्तगदापाणे वनमालासुकन्धर। यज्ञसूत्रधरब्रह्मन् दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥१४॥
Shoola-hasta-gadaa-paane Vana-maalaa-su-kandhara Yajna-sootra-dhara-brahman Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (14)
O you who hold the trident and the mace in your hands, with the forest-garland gracing your neck, the Brahman who wears the sacred thread — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 16
क्षराक्षरस्वरूपाय परात्परतराय च। दत्तमुक्तिपरस्तोत्र दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥१५॥
Ksharaakshara-svaroopaaya Paraat-para-taraaya Cha Datta-mukti-para-stotra Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (15)
To him who is of the form of the perishable and the imperishable, and is higher than the highest, O hymn that grants the supreme liberation bestowed (datta) — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 17
दत्त विद्याढ्यलक्ष्मीश दत्त स्वात्मस्वरूपिणे। गुणनिर्गुणरूपाय दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥१६॥
Datta Vidyaadhya-lakshmeesha Datta Svaatma-svaroopine Guna-nirguna-roopaaya Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (16)
O Datta, lord of the wealth of knowledge, O Datta who is the very form of one's own Self, of the form of both with and without attributes — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 18
शत्रुनाशकरं स्तोत्रं ज्ञानविज्ञानदायकम्। सर्वपापं शमं याति दत्तात्रेय नमोऽस्तु ते॥१७॥
Shatru-naasha-karam Stotram Jnaana-vijnaana-daayakam Sarva-paapam Shamam Yaati Dattaatreya Namo'stu Te (17)
This hymn destroys enemies and bestows knowledge and realisation; all sins are quelled by it — O Dattatreya, salutations to you.
Verse 19
इदं स्तोत्रं महद्दिव्यं दत्तप्रत्यक्षकारकम्। दत्तात्रेयप्रसादाच्च नारदेन प्रकीर्तितम्॥१८॥
Idam Stotram Mahad-divyam Datta-pratyaksha-kaarakam Dattaatreya-prasaadaach-cha Naaradena Prakeertitam (18)
This great and divine hymn brings the direct vision (pratyaksha) of Datta; by the grace of Dattatreya it was proclaimed by the sage Narada.
