✦ ಅರ್ಥ

ದುಂ (ದುಂ) ಅಜೇಯ ವೀರ ಮಾತೆ ದುರ್ಗಾದೇವಿಯ ಶಕ್ತಿಶಾಲಿ ಬೀಜಮಂತ್ರ. ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ 'ಓಂ ದುಂ ದುರ್ಗಾಯೈ ನಮಃ' ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಜಪಿಸುವ ಇದು ರಕ್ಷಣೆ, ಧೈರ್ಯ, ಶಕ್ತಿಯ ಧ್ವನಿದುರ್ಗ. ಭಕ್ತರು ಹಾನಿ, ನಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕತೆಯಿಂದ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಗೆ, ಕಷ್ಟಗಳನ್ನು ಮೀರಲು, ಮಾತೆಯ ಕೃಪೆಯನ್ನು ಆವಾಹಿಸಲು ಇದನ್ನು ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

In the Shakta tantras, Dum is the beej of Durga, the invincible Mother whose name means 'the impassable fortress' that evil cannot breach. The Devi Mahatmya (Durga Saptashati) celebrates her as the slayer of Mahishasura and the protector of the worlds. Her seed-sound concentrates that warrior-grace into a single syllable, making 'Om Dum Durgayai Namah' one of the most relied-upon protective mantras in the tradition.

It is told that when devotees in mortal danger have called upon Durga through her seed-sound, the Mother on her lion has turned aside the blow, just as she once routed the armies of demons in the Devi Mahatmya. Tradition holds that no negativity, curse or evil eye can penetrate the fortress of one who sincerely chants 'Om Dum Durgayai Namah'.

ಅರ್ಥ:ಓಂ ದುಂ — ರಕ್ಷಣೆ, ಶಕ್ತಿಯ ಧ್ವನಿಯಾದ ಅಜೇಯ ಮಾತೆ ದುರ್ಗಾದೇವಿಯ ಬೀಜಮಂತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು ನಮಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಓಂ ದುಂ, ಸಕಲ ಕೆಡುಕನ್ನು ನಾಶಮಾಡಿ ಎಲ್ಲ ಕಷ್ಟಗಳನ್ನು ತೊಲಗಿಸುವ ದುರ್ಗೆಗೆ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ.

Sit facing east or north in a clean place before an image of Durga, with a lamp and ideally a red flower. Steady the breath and chant 'Om Dum Durgayai Namah' 108 times using a rudraksha or red-coral mala. Pronounce 'Dum' firmly (doom), letting the bindu resonate. Visualise the Mother on her lion surrounding you with a shield of protective light. Navaratri is the most powerful time for this sadhana, and a daily 40-day practice deepens her protective grace. Maintain cleanliness and sincerity throughout.
