✦ Meaning
The Karya Siddhi Hanuman Stotram is a short, potent prayer recited for success in all undertakings and the removal of obstacles. It joins three of the most revered Hanuman verses: the dhyana 'Manojavam Maruta-tulya-vegam', the famous 'Buddhir balam yasho dhairyam' enumerating the eight gifts gained by remembering Hanuman, and the Sundara Kanda verse 'Tvamasmin karya niryoge' in which Sita appeals to Hanuman as the one capable of accomplishing the task and ending her sorrow. Together they form the classic invocation for Karya Siddhi — the fulfilment of one's goals.
Origin & Story
A traditional compilation of three revered Hanuman verses: the dhyana shloka (also in Rama Raksha Stotra), the Parashara Samhita verse 'Buddhir balam', and Valmiki Ramayana Sundara Kanda 39.4 · Verses traditional; the third is Valmiki (Sita's words in the Sundara Kanda) · Ancient (Ramayana) and traditional
The heart of this prayer is a verse from the Sundara Kanda: when Hanuman finally finds Sita captive in Lanka and prepares to return to Rama, Sita entrusts him with the success of the mission, saying 'In this task you alone are the proof of capability, O best of the vanaras; strive, Hanuman, and become the destroyer of my sorrow.' Because Hanuman did accomplish that seemingly impossible task, these words are recited as the foremost prayer for Karya Siddhi — success in difficult undertakings — together with his dhyana shloka and the verse listing the eight boons of his remembrance.
✦ As told in scripture
Generations of devotees testify that reciting the 'Tvamasmin karya niryoge' verse before stalled work, court cases, examinations or seemingly impossible tasks has cleared the way to success — for the very words once empowered Hanuman to leap the ocean, find Sita and turn the tide of the Ramayana.
