Verse 1
इन्द्र उवाच —
समस्तकवचं ब्रूहि समस्तार्थप्रसाधनम्।
रक्षाकरं तु जगतां येन रक्षामि देवताः॥
Indra Uvacha —
Samasta Kavacham Bruhi Samastartha Prasadhanam
Rakshakaram Tu Jagatam Yena Rakshami Devatah
Indra said: Declare to me the complete armour, the accomplisher of every aim, the protector of the worlds, by which I may protect the gods.
Verse 2
ब्रह्मोवाच —
शृणु वक्ष्यामि विप्रेन्द्र कवचं परमाद्भुतम्।
महालक्ष्म्यास्तु यद्दिव्यं सर्वसम्पत्प्रदायकम्॥
Brahma Uvacha —
Shrinu Vakshyami Viprendra Kavacham Paramadbhutam
Mahalakshmyastu Yad Divyam Sarva Sampat Pradayakam
Brahma said: Listen, O best of the wise — I shall declare the most wonderful armour of Mahalakshmi, the divine one that bestows all wealth and prosperity.
Verse 3
ॐ अस्य श्रीमहालक्ष्मीकवचमन्त्रस्य ब्रह्मा ऋषिः।
गायत्री छन्दः। महालक्ष्मीर्देवता।
श्रीमहालक्ष्मीप्रीत्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः॥
Om Asya Shri Mahalakshmi Kavacha Mantrasya Brahma Rishih
Gayatri Chhandah Mahalakshmir Devata
Shri Mahalakshmi Prityarthe Jape Viniyogah
Om. Of this Shri Mahalakshmi Kavacha mantra, the sage is Brahma, the metre is Gayatri, the deity is Mahalakshmi; it is applied in recitation for the pleasure of Shri Mahalakshmi.
Verse 4
शिरो मे विष्णुपत्नी च ललाटममृतोद्भवा।
कर्णौ च श्रीकरी पातु नेत्रे श्रीनिवासप्रिया॥
Shiro Me Vishnupatni Cha Lalatam Amritodbhava
Karnau Cha Shrikari Patu Netre Shrinivasapriya
May the consort of Vishnu protect my head; may she who arose from the nectar protect my forehead; may Shrikari protect my ears, and the beloved of Shrinivasa my eyes.
Verse 5
घ्राणं पातु वराहाङ्की जिह्वां पातु हरिप्रिया।
मुखं पातु महालक्ष्मीः कण्ठं वैकुण्ठवासिनी॥
Ghranam Patu Varahanki Jihvam Patu Haripriya
Mukham Patu Mahalakshmih Kantham Vaikunthavasini
May Varahanki protect my nose, and the beloved of Hari my tongue; may Mahalakshmi protect my face, and she who dwells in Vaikuntha my throat.
Verse 6
स्कन्धौ खड्गधरा पातु भुजौ भार्गवनन्दिनी।
हस्तौ च चक्रिणी पातु वक्षः पातु हरिप्रिया॥
Skandhau Khadgadhara Patu Bhujau Bhargavanandini
Hastau Cha Chakrini Patu Vakshah Patu Haripriya
May the bearer of the sword protect my shoulders, and the daughter of Bhrigu my arms; may the bearer of the discus protect my hands, and the beloved of Hari my chest.
Verse 7
नाभिं च पद्ममालिनी कटिं पातु सुरेश्वरी।
ऊरू च पद्मनिलया जानुनी जनकात्मजा॥
Nabhim Cha Padmamalini Katim Patu Sureshvari
Uru Cha Padmanilaya Januni Janakatmaja
May she who wears the lotus garland protect my navel, and the supreme goddess my waist; may she who is seated on the lotus protect my thighs, and the daughter of Janaka my knees.
Verse 8
जङ्घे पातु जगन्माता पादौ पातु करालिका।
सर्वाङ्गं पातु मे लक्ष्मीः सर्वत्र विजयप्रदा॥
Janghe Patu Jaganmata Padau Patu Karalika
Sarvangam Patu Me Lakshmih Sarvatra Vijayaprada
May the Mother of the universe protect my shins, and Karalika my feet; may Lakshmi, giver of victory everywhere, protect all my limbs.
Verse 9
इति ते कथितं विप्र सर्वसम्पत्करं परम्।
त्रिकालं पठते यस्तु महालक्ष्म्याः प्रसादतः॥
Iti Te Kathitam Vipra Sarva Sampatkaram Param
Trikalam Pathate Yastu Mahalakshmyah Prasadatah
Thus, O sage, I have declared to you this supreme bestower of all wealth. Whoever recites it at the three times of day, by the grace of Mahalakshmi,
Verse 10
धनधान्यसमृद्धिः स्यात्पुत्रपौत्रादिवर्धिनी।
भूतप्रेतपिशाचाश्च न बाधन्ते कदाचन॥
Dhana Dhanya Samriddhih Syat Putra Pautradi Vardhini
Bhuta Preta Pishachashcha Na Badhante Kadachana
attains abundance of wealth and grain, and increase of sons, grandsons and posterity; and ghosts, spectres and goblins never trouble him at all.
Verse 11
इदं रहस्यं परमं न देयं यस्य कस्यचित्।
धारणाद्वाचनादस्य सर्वान्कामानवाप्नुयात्॥
Idam Rahasyam Paramam Na Deyam Yasya Kasyachit
Dharanad Vachanad Asya Sarvan Kamanavapnuyat
This is a supreme secret, not to be given to just anyone. By wearing it or reciting it, one obtains all one's desires.
