mahāliṅgaṃ mahādevaṃ maheśvaramumāpatim | sāmbaṃ madhyārjuneśaṃ taṃ guruṃ devaṃ nato'smyaham || 1|| jyotirūpaṃ kṛṣṇarūpaṃ sarvarūpaṃ jagatpatim | iṣṭārthasiddhidaṃ śambhuṃ mahāliṅgaṃ nato'smyaham || 2|| kāśikṣetrasamānañca kailāsādadhikaṃ priyam | śāśvatasthiravāsaṃ ca mahāliṅgaṃ nato'smyaham || 3|| bṛhadkucāmbāsahitaṃ mūkāmbā tapasāphalam | gaṇādhyakṣaṃ ṣaṇmukhañca mahāliṅgaṃ nato'smyaham || 4|| pradakṣiṇādaśvamedhaṃ namanātvājapeyakam | stotrātśrīrājasūyākhyaṃ smarāṇatmuktidāyakam || 5|| kṣetravāsaśca nirmukta tīrthasnānaiḥ sadā śuci | pañcākṣarajapāścaiva mahāliṅgaṃ pratuṣyati || 6|| yaḥ pradoṣa mahāliṅgaṃ rudrajāpātpradoṣayet | sa sarvaroganirmukta śatāyussukhametatu || 7|| darśanātsarvapāpaghnaṃ namanātvāñchitapradam | smaraṇānsarvasāyujyaṃ mahāliṅgaṃ nato'smyaham || 8|| mahāliṅgāṣṭakaṃ stotraṃ kṛtaṃ kaṣṭaughanāśanam | mahāliṅgapreritena gopālena kṛtaṃ śubham || 9|| iti mahāliṅgāṣṭakaṃ sampūrṇam |

Bathe and sit facing east or north before an image of the deity. Light a lamp and recite the Mahalingashtakam slowly and with devotion. It may be chanted daily, or especially during Maha Shivaratri, Pradosh and the month of Shravan. Conclude with a prayer for grace and protection.
