The Mahalingashtakam is a cherished traditional hymn. Eight verses to the Mahalinga — the great cosmic linga of Shiva — adoring Mahadeva, Maheshwara and consort of Uma as the boundless reality worshipped by gods and sages.

It is said that to recite the Mahalingashtakam with a sincere and devoted heart is to draw near to the grace of the Lord, who never forsakes those who lovingly call upon Him.

ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਪੰਗਤੀ ਜਾਂ ▶ ਬਟਨ ਨੂੰ ਛੂਹ ਕੇ ਸੁਣੋ
ਮਹਾਲਿਙ੍ਗਂ ਮਹਾਦੇਵਂ ਮਹੇਸ਼੍ਵਰਮੁਮਾਪਤਿਮ੍ । ਸਾਮ੍ਬਂ ਮਧ੍ਯਾਰ੍ਜੁਨੇਸ਼ਂ ਤਂ ਗੁਰੁਂ ਦੇਵਂ ਨਤੋऽਸ੍ਮ੍ਯਹਮ੍ ॥ ੧॥ ਜ੍ਯੋਤਿਰੂਪਂ ਕृष੍ਣਰੂਪਂ ਸਰ੍ਵਰੂਪਂ ਜਗਤ੍ਪਤਿਮ੍ । ਇष੍ਟਾਰ੍ਥਸਿਦ੍ਧਿਦਂ ਸ਼ਮ੍ਭੁਂ ਮਹਾਲਿਙ੍ਗਂ ਨਤੋऽਸ੍ਮ੍ਯਹਮ੍ ॥ ੨॥ ਕਾਸ਼ਿਕ੍षੇਤ੍ਰਸਮਾਨਞ੍ਚ ਕੈਲਾਸਾਦਧਿਕਂ ਪ੍ਰਿਯਮ੍ । ਸ਼ਾਸ਼੍ਵਤਸ੍ਥਿਰਵਾਸਂ ਚ ਮਹਾਲਿਙ੍ਗਂ ਨਤੋऽਸ੍ਮ੍ਯਹਮ੍ ॥ ੩॥ ਬृਹਦ੍ਕੁਚਾਮ੍ਬਾਸਹਿਤਂ ਮੂਕਾਮ੍ਬਾ ਤਪਸਾਫਲਮ੍ । ਗਣਾਧ੍ਯਕ੍षਂ षਣ੍ਮੁਖਞ੍ਚ ਮਹਾਲਿਙ੍ਗਂ ਨਤੋऽਸ੍ਮ੍ਯਹਮ੍ ॥ ੪॥ ਪ੍ਰਦਕ੍षਿਣਾਦਸ਼੍ਵਮੇਧਂ ਨਮਨਾਤ੍ਵਾਜਪੇਯਕਮ੍ । ਸ੍ਤੋਤ੍ਰਾਤ੍ਸ਼੍ਰੀਰਾਜਸੂਯਾਖ੍ਯਂ ਸ੍ਮਰਾਣਤ੍ਮੁਕ੍ਤਿਦਾਯਕਮ੍ ॥ ੫॥ ਕ੍षੇਤ੍ਰਵਾਸਸ਼੍ਚ ਨਿਰ੍ਮੁਕ੍ਤ ਤੀਰ੍ਥਸ੍ਨਾਨੈਃ ਸਦਾ ਸ਼ੁਚਿ । ਪਞ੍ਚਾਕ੍षਰਜਪਾਸ਼੍ਚੈਵ ਮਹਾਲਿਙ੍ਗਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੁष੍ਯਤਿ ॥ ੬॥ ਯਃ ਪ੍ਰਦੋष ਮਹਾਲਿਙ੍ਗਂ ਰੁਦ੍ਰਜਾਪਾਤ੍ਪ੍ਰਦੋषਯੇਤ੍ । ਸ ਸਰ੍ਵਰੋਗਨਿਰ੍ਮੁਕ੍ਤ ਸ਼ਤਾਯੁਸ੍ਸੁਖਮੇਤਤੁ ॥ ੭॥ ਦਰ੍ਸ਼ਨਾਤ੍ਸਰ੍ਵਪਾਪਘ੍ਨਂ ਨਮਨਾਤ੍ਵਾਞ੍ਛਿਤਪ੍ਰਦਮ੍ । ਸ੍ਮਰਣਾਨ੍ਸਰ੍ਵਸਾਯੁਜ੍ਯਂ ਮਹਾਲਿਙ੍ਗਂ ਨਤੋऽਸ੍ਮ੍ਯਹਮ੍ ॥ ੮॥ ਮਹਾਲਿਙ੍ਗਾष੍ਟਕਂ ਸ੍ਤੋਤ੍ਰਂ ਕृਤਂ ਕष੍ਟੌਘਨਾਸ਼ਨਮ੍ । ਮਹਾਲਿਙ੍ਗਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤੇਨ ਗੋਪਾਲੇਨ ਕृਤਂ ਸ਼ੁਭਮ੍ ॥ ੯॥ ਇਤਿ ਮਹਾਲਿਙ੍ਗਾष੍ਟਕਂ ਸਮ੍ਪੂਰ੍ਣਮ੍ ।
mahāliṅgaṃ mahādevaṃ maheśvaramumāpatim | sāmbaṃ madhyārjuneśaṃ taṃ guruṃ devaṃ nato'smyaham || 1|| jyotirūpaṃ kṛṣṇarūpaṃ sarvarūpaṃ jagatpatim | iṣṭārthasiddhidaṃ śambhuṃ mahāliṅgaṃ nato'smyaham || 2|| kāśikṣetrasamānañca kailāsādadhikaṃ priyam | śāśvatasthiravāsaṃ ca mahāliṅgaṃ nato'smyaham || 3|| bṛhadkucāmbāsahitaṃ mūkāmbā tapasāphalam | gaṇādhyakṣaṃ ṣaṇmukhañca mahāliṅgaṃ nato'smyaham || 4|| pradakṣiṇādaśvamedhaṃ namanātvājapeyakam | stotrātśrīrājasūyākhyaṃ smarāṇatmuktidāyakam || 5|| kṣetravāsaśca nirmukta tīrthasnānaiḥ sadā śuci | pañcākṣarajapāścaiva mahāliṅgaṃ pratuṣyati || 6|| yaḥ pradoṣa mahāliṅgaṃ rudrajāpātpradoṣayet | sa sarvaroganirmukta śatāyussukhametatu || 7|| darśanātsarvapāpaghnaṃ namanātvāñchitapradam | smaraṇānsarvasāyujyaṃ mahāliṅgaṃ nato'smyaham || 8|| mahāliṅgāṣṭakaṃ stotraṃ kṛtaṃ kaṣṭaughanāśanam | mahāliṅgapreritena gopālena kṛtaṃ śubham || 9|| iti mahāliṅgāṣṭakaṃ sampūrṇam |

Mahalingashtakam ਪਾਠ ਵਿਧੀ
Bathe and sit facing east or north before an image of the deity. Light a lamp and recite the Mahalingashtakam slowly and with devotion. It may be chanted daily, or especially during Maha Shivaratri, Pradosh and the month of Shravan. Conclude with a prayer for grace and protection.
