The Gayatri mantra of Lord Rama · Traditional (Vedic)

Beyond the universal Gayatri Mantra, the Vedic tradition gives each great deity its own Gayatri — a prayer in the sacred Gayatri meter calling upon that deity to illumine the intellect. The Rama Gayatri invokes Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu and the embodiment of dharma, addressed as Dasharathi (son of Dasharatha) and Sitavallabha (beloved of Sita). Following the timeless pattern "Vidmahe… Dhimahi… Prachodayat," it is chanted for righteousness, peace and steadfast devotion to Rama.

ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿದಂತೆ

The very name of Rama is celebrated in tradition as the Taraka mantra — the boat that carries the soul across the ocean of worldly existence; meditating on Rama through his Gayatri is said to steady the mind, uphold dharma in daily life and bring his calm, protective grace to the devotee.

It is the Gayatri mantra of Lord Rama: "Om Dasharathaya Vidmahe Sitavallabhaya Dhimahi. Tanno Ramah Prachodayat". Set in the sacred Gayatri meter, it invokes Rama — son of Dasharatha and beloved of Sita — to illumine the intellect, in the pattern "Vidmahe… Dhimahi… Prachodayat".
It is chanted for righteousness, peace, steadiness of mind and success in noble endeavours, and to deepen devotion to Lord Rama. As a Gayatri mantra it is also purifying and calming, awakening clarity of intellect along with Rama's dharmic, patient strength.
'Dasharatha' (Dasharathi) means 'son of King Dasharatha', and 'Sitavallabha' means 'beloved lord of Sita'. These names, used in the mantra, recall Rama's life in the Ramayana as the ideal son, husband and king — the very embodiment of dharma.
Chant it 108 times on a mala, ideally at dawn and the other sandhya times, facing east. Rama Navami is especially auspicious. It can be made part of a daily Gayatri sadhana, alongside the Rama Taraka mantra and the Ram Raksha Stotra.
