Word-by-Word Breakdown
Origin & History
Source: Narada Pancharatra (also associated with the Brahma Vaivarta Purana / Garga Samhita tradition)
Author: Traditional (taught by Sanatkumara to Narada)
Period: Ancient (Agamic / Pancharatra)
The Trailokya Mangala Kavacham is a protective armour of Lord Krishna belonging to the Pancharatra Agama tradition, framed as a dialogue between Sage Narada and Sanatkumara. According to tradition, the armour was first revealed by Lord Vishnu, passed down through Brahma and Shiva to Sage Durvasa, who imparted it in the household of Nanda and Yashoda, where it was used to protect the infant Krishna from demons such as Putana. By the power of this same Kavacha, Krishna is said to have become the master of the three worlds — hence its name, Trailokya-mangala.
