ईशानां जगतोऽस्य वेङ्कटपतेर्विष्णोः परां प्रेयसीं तद्वक्षःस्थलनित्यवासरसिकां तत्क्षान्तिसंवर्धिनीम् । पद्मालङ्कृतपाणिपल्लवयुगां पद्मासनस्थां श्रियं वात्सल्यादिगुणोज्ज्वलां भगवतीं वन्दे जगन्मातरम् ॥ १ ॥

īśānāṃ jagato'sya veṅkaṭapaterviṣṇoḥ parāṃ preyasīṃ tadvakṣaḥsthalanityavāsarasikāṃ tatkṣāntisaṃvardhinīm | padmālaṅkṛtapāṇipallavayugāṃ padmāsanasthāṃ śriyaṃ vātsalyādiguṇojjvalāṃ bhagavatīṃ vande jaganmātaram || 1 ||

I salute the divine Mother of the worlds — Goddess Sri (Lakshmi), the sovereign Queen of this universe and the supreme beloved of Vishnu, Lord of Venkata; she who ever delights to dwell upon His chest, who increases His forgiveness toward us, whose tender hands hold lotuses, who is seated on a lotus, and who shines with motherly affection and every grace. (1)

श्रीमन् कृपाजलनिधे कृतसर्वलोक सर्वज्ञ शक्त नतवत्सल सर्वशेषिन् । स्वामिन् सुशील सुलभाश्रितपारिजात श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ २ ॥

śrīman kṛpājalanidhe kṛtasarvaloka sarvajña śakta natavatsala sarvaśeṣin | svāmin suśīla sulabhāśritapārijāta śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 2 ||

O illustrious ocean of mercy, O Maker of all the worlds, all-knowing, all-powerful, loving toward those who bow to You, Master of all that exists; O gracious Lord, gentle of nature, wish-granting tree easily reached by those who surrender — I take refuge at the feet of Sri Venkatesha. (2)

आनूपुरार्पितसुजातसुगन्धिपुष्प- सौरभ्यसौरभकरौ समसन्निवेशौ । सौम्यौ सदाऽनुभवनेऽपि नवानुभाव्यौ श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ ३ ॥

ānūpurārpitasujātasugandhipuṣpa- saurabhyasaurabhakarau samasanniveśau | saumyau sadā'nubhavane'pi navānubhāvyau śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 3 ||

Those two feet whose fragrance is made yet more fragrant by the sweet-scented flowers laid at their anklets, equally and beautifully formed, gentle, and ever-new to experience though enjoyed forever — at the feet of Sri Venkatesha I take refuge. (3)

सद्योविकासिसमुदित्वरसान्द्रराग- सौरभ्यनिर्भरसरोरुहसाम्यवार्ताम् । सम्यक्षु साहसपदेषु विलेखयन्तौ श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ ४ ॥

sadyovikāsisamuditvarasāndrarāga- saurabhyanirbharasaroruhasāmyavārtām | samyaksu sāhasapadeṣu vilekhayantau śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 4 ||

Those feet which, in their dense red glow like a freshly opened lotus heavy with pollen and fragrance, boldly inscribe their rivalry with the lotus upon their soles — at the feet of Sri Venkatesha I take refuge. (4)

रेखामयध्वजसुधाकलशातपत्र- वज्राङ्कुशाम्बुरुहकल्पकशङ्खचक्रैः । भव्यैरलङ्कृततलौ परतत्त्वचिह्नैः श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ ५ ॥

rekhāmayadhvajasudhākalaśātapatra- vajrāṅkuśāmburuhakalpakaśaṅkhacakraiḥ | bhavyairalaṅkṛtatalau paratattvacihnaiḥ śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 5 ||

Those feet whose soles are adorned with auspicious emblems of the Supreme Reality — the flag, nectar-pot, parasol, thunderbolt, goad, lotus, the wish-tree, conch and discus — at the feet of Sri Venkatesha I take refuge. (5)

ताम्रोदरद्युतिपराजितपद्मरागौ बाह्यैर्महोभिरभिभूतमहेन्द्रनीलौ । उद्यन्नखांशुभिरुदस्तशशाङ्कभासौ श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ ६ ॥

tāmrodaradyutiparājitapadmarāgau bāhyairmahobhirabhibhūtamahendranīlau | udyannakhāṃśubhirudastaśaśāṅkabhāsau śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 6 ||

Those feet whose coppery inner radiance defeats the ruby, whose outer splendour overwhelms the great sapphire, and the rising rays of whose nails surpass the brightness of the moon — at the feet of Sri Venkatesha I take refuge. (6)

सप्रेमभीतिकमलाकरपल्लवाभ्यां संवाहनेऽपि सपदि क्लममादधानौ । कान्तावनाङ्मनसगोचरसौकुमार्यौ श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ ७ ॥

sapremabhītikamalākarapallavābhyāṃ saṃvāhane'pi sapadi klamamādadhānau | kāntāvanāṅmanasagocarasaukumāryau śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 7 ||

Those feet so delicate that, when even the lotus-soft hands of Lakshmi press them lovingly and with awe, they at once seem to grow weary — feet whose tenderness is beyond the reach of speech and mind — at the feet of Sri Venkatesha I take refuge. (7)

लक्ष्मीमही तदनुरूपनिजानुभाव- नीडादिदिव्यमहिषीकरपल्लवानाम् । आरुण्यसङ्क्रमणतः किल सान्द्ररागौ श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ ८ ॥

lakṣmīmahī tadanurūpanijānubhāva- nīḍādidivyamahiṣīkarapallavānām | āruṇyasaṅkramaṇataḥ kila sāndrarāgau śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 8 ||

Those feet whose deep redness comes, it is said, from the reddish glow transferred onto them from the lotus-hands of Lakshmi, Bhumi, Nila and the other divine consorts — at the feet of Sri Venkatesha I take refuge. (8)

नित्यानमद्विधिशिवादिकिरीटकोटि- प्रत्युप्तदीप्तनवरत्नमहःप्ररोहैः । नीराजनाविधिमुदारमुपादधानौ श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ ९ ॥

nityānamadvidhiśivādikirīṭakoṭi- pratyuptadīptanavaratnamahaḥprarohaiḥ | nīrājanāvidhimudāramupādadhānau śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 9 ||

Those feet which graciously receive the grand waving of lights (arati) shed by the crests of new gems studded in the millions of crowns of Brahma, Shiva and the gods who eternally bow before them — at the feet of Sri Venkatesha I take refuge. (9)

विष्णोः पदे परम इत्युदितप्रशंसौ यौ मध्व उत्स इति भोग्यतयाप्युपात्तौ । भूयस्तथेति तव पाणितलप्रदिष्टौ श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ १० ॥

viṣṇoḥ pade parama ityuditapraśaṃsau yau madhva utsa iti bhogyatayāpyupāttau | bhūyastatheti tava pāṇitalapradiṣṭau śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 10 ||

Those feet which the Veda extols as 'the supreme abode of Vishnu', which it cherishes as 'a fountain of honey', and which You Yourself point to again with Your own hand (at Tirumala) — at the feet of Sri Venkatesha I take refuge. (10)

पार्थाय तत्सदृशसारथिना त्वयैव यौ दर्शितौ स्वचरणौ शरणं व्रजेति । भूयोऽपि मह्यमिह तौ करदर्शितौ ते श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ ११ ॥

pārthāya tatsadṛśasārathinā tvayaiva yau darśitau svacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ vrajeti | bhūyo'pi mahyamiha tau karadarśitau te śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 11 ||

Those very feet which You, becoming Arjuna's matchless charioteer, showed to him saying 'take refuge in them', and which here again You point out to me with Your hand — at the feet of Sri Venkatesha I take refuge. (11)

मन्मूर्ध्नि कालियफणे विकटाटवीषु श्रीवेङ्कटाद्रिशिखरे शिरसि श्रुतीनाम् । चित्तेऽप्यनन्यमनसां सममाहितौ ते श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ १२ ॥

manmūrdhni kāliyaphaṇe vikaṭāṭavīṣu śrīveṅkaṭādriśikhare śirasi śrutīnām | citte'pyananyamanasāṃ samamāhitau te śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 12 ||

Those feet which rest equally upon my head, upon the hood of Kaliya, in fearsome forests, on the peak of Venkata Hill, on the crown of the Vedas, and in the hearts of single-minded devotees — at the feet of Sri Venkatesha I take refuge. (12)

अम्लानहृष्यदवनीतलकीर्णपुष्पौ श्रीवेङ्कटाद्रिशिखराभरणायमानौ । आनन्दिताखिलमनोनयनौ तवैतौ श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ १३ ॥

amlānahṛṣyadavanītalakīrṇapuṣpau śrīveṅkaṭādriśikharābharaṇāyamānau | ānanditākhilamanonayanau tavaitau śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 13 ||

Those feet strewn with fresh, ever-blooming flowers, serving as the very ornament of the summit of Venkata Hill, delighting the minds and eyes of all — at the feet of Sri Venkatesha I take refuge. (13)

प्रायः प्रपन्नजनता प्रथमावगाह्यौ मातुः स्तनाविव शिशोरमृतायमाणौ । प्राप्तौ परस्परतुलामतुलान्तरौ ते श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ १४ ॥

prāyaḥ prapannajanatā prathamāvagāhyau mātuḥ stanāviva śiśoramṛtāyamāṇau | prāptau parasparatulāmatulāntarau te śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 14 ||

Those feet which surrendered souls plunge into first of all, like an infant to its mother's breast, ever nourishing as nectar, each foot matchless yet a perfect match for the other — at the feet of Sri Venkatesha I take refuge. (14)

सत्त्वोत्तरैः सततसेव्यपदाम्बुजेन संसारतारकदयार्द्रदृगञ्चलेन । सौम्योपयन्तृमुनिना मम दर्शितौ ते श्रीवेङ्कटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ १५ ॥

sattvottaraiḥ satatasevyapadāmbujena saṃsāratārakadayārdradṛgañcalena | saumyopayantṛmuninā mama darśitau te śrīveṅkaṭeśacaraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye || 15 ||

Those feet which the gracious sage Upayantru (Manavala Mamuni), whose own lotus-feet are ever served by the noblest souls and whose sidelong glance is wet with the mercy that ferries beings across samsara, has shown to me — at the feet of Sri Venkatesha I take refuge. (15)

श्रीश श्रिया घटिकया त्वदुपायभावे प्राप्ये त्वयि स्वयमुपेयतया स्फुरन्त्या । नित्याश्रिताय निरवद्यगुणाय तुभ्यं स्यां किङ्करो वृषगिरीश न जातु मह्यम् ॥ १६ ॥

śrīśa śriyā ghaṭikayā tvadupāyabhāve prāpye tvayi svayamupeyatayā sphurantyā | nityāśritāya niravadyaguṇāya tubhyaṃ syāṃ kiṅkaro vṛṣagirīśa na jātu mahyam || 16 ||

O Lord of Sri, with Sri herself as the intercessor who is at once Your means and Your goal shining within You, may I forever be a servant unto You — the ever-flawless, the eternal refuge — and never, ever belong to myself. O Lord of Vrishagiri! (16)
