Meaning

Bhagavad Gita 9.27 teaches the heart of karma yoga and devotion — the art of offering one's whole life to God. Krishna asks Arjuna to dedicate every act, every meal, every sacrifice, gift and austerity to him. By turning all of life into an offering, even ordinary actions become worship and the devotee is freed from karmic bondage.

Origin & Story

Bhagavad Gita Chapter 9, Verse 27 · Veda Vyasa (Lord Krishna's teaching) · Itihasa (Mahabharata)

In the ninth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, the Raja Vidya Raja Guhya Yoga — the king of knowledge and the king of secrets — Lord Krishna reveals the path of loving devotion. Having said he accepts even a leaf or water offered with love, he here teaches Arjuna the complete practice of surrender: to offer every action, meal, sacrifice, gift and austerity to him, so that all of life becomes worship.

As told in scripture

It is taught that one who lives this verse, offering every act to the Lord, is freed from the bondage of karma, for nothing is done for the self any longer; even the simplest daily action, dedicated to God, becomes sacred and carries the devotee toward liberation.
