This shloka contrasts the gaudy ornaments people prize with the true ornaments of the soul — charity, truth and learning — concluding that one adorned with virtue has no need of jewels. ଯେକୌଣସି ଧାଡ଼ି କିମ୍ବା ▶ ବଟନ୍ ଛୁଇଁ ଶୁଣନ୍ତୁ
ହସ୍ତସ୍ଯ ଭୂଷଣଂ ଦାନଂ ସତ୍ଯଂ କଣ୍ଠସ୍ଯ ଭୂଷଣମ୍। ଶ୍ରୋତ୍ରସ୍ଯ ଭୂଷଣଂ ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରଂ ଭୂଷଣୈଃ କିଂ ପ୍ରଯୋଜନମ୍॥
hastasya bhūṣaṇaṁ dānaṁ satyaṁ kaṇṭhasya bhūṣaṇam। śrotrasya bhūṣaṇaṁ śāstraṁ bhūṣaṇaiḥ kiṁ prayojanam॥
ଅର୍ଥ:हाथ का आभूषण दान है; कण्ठ (वाणी) का आभूषण सत्य है; कान का आभूषण शास्त्र (सद्ज्ञान का श्रवण) है — तो फिर (बाहरी) आभूषणों से क्या प्रयोजन? यह श्लोक घोषित करता है कि मनुष्य के सच्चे आभूषण उसके गुण हैं — दान, सत्य और विद्या — जिनके सामने बाह्य अलंकार निरर्थक हैं।
