Shani — the planet Saturn — is the son of Surya (the Sun) and Chhaya, and the elder brother of Yama, the lord of death. As the slowest-moving graha and the great judge of the Navagrahas, he weighs each soul's karma and returns it exactly, which is why his Sade Sati is feared. The sages gave mantras to win his grace: the seed mantra for daily japa, the Gayatri for invocation, the Nilanjan verse for meditation, and the ten names compiled by the sage Pippalada — said to shield the reciter from every affliction Shani can send.

When the sage Pippalada's father was tormented by Shani, Pippalada is said to have praised Saturn with these ten names and won the boon that whoever recites them at dawn would never suffer Shani's affliction. To this day devotees in Sade Sati chant the Shani beej and ten-name mantras each Saturday and report their heaviest trials turning, in time, to discipline and lasting fortune.

അർഥം:ॐ शं — शनैश्चर (शनिदेव) को नमस्कार। शनि का सरल एकाक्षर (शं) बीज-नमस्कार, प्रतिदिन उनकी कृपा हेतु जपा जाता है।
ഓം പ്രാം പ്രീം പ്രൌം സഃ ശനൈശ്ചരായ നമഃ ॥

അർഥം:ॐ प्रां प्रीं प्रौं सः — शनैश्चर को नमस्कार। यह शनि बीज मन्त्र है, जो पीड़ित शनि के उपाय रूप में परम्परागत रूप से २३,००० बार जपा जाता है।
ഓം കാകധ്വജായ വിദ്മഹേ ഖഡ്ഗഹസ്തായ ധീമഹി । തന്നോ മന്ദഃ പ്രചോദയാത് ॥
Om kakadhvajaya vidmahe khadgahastaya dhimahi Tanno mandah prachodayat
അർഥം:ॐ, हम काकध्वज (शनि) को जानें, खड्गधारी का ध्यान करें; वे मन्द (शनि) हमें प्रेरित करें। (शनि गायत्री मन्त्र।)
നീലാഞ്ജനസമാഭാസം രവിപുത്രം യമാഗ്രജമ് । ഛായാമാര്തണ്ഡസമ്ഭൂതം തം നമാമി ശനൈശ്ചരമ് ॥

അർഥം:नीले अंजन (काजल) के समान कान्ति वाले, सूर्य (रवि) के पुत्र और यम के बड़े भाई, छाया तथा मार्तण्ड (सूर्य) से उत्पन्न — उन शनैश्चर को मैं नमस्कार करता हूँ। (प्रसिद्ध शनि ध्यान श्लोक।)
കോണസ്ഥഃ പിങ്ഗലോ ബഭ്രുഃ കൃഷ്ണോ രൌദ്രോഽന്തകോ യമഃ । സൌരിഃ ശനൈശ്ചരോ മന്ദഃ പിപ്പലാദേന സംസ്തുതഃ ॥

അർഥം:कोणस्थ, पिङ्गल, बभ्रु, कृष्ण, रौद्र, अन्तक, यम, सौरि, शनैश्चर और मन्द — इस प्रकार पिप्पलाद ऋषि द्वारा उनकी स्तुति की गई है। (शनि के दस नाम।)
ഏതാനി ദശ നാമാനി പ്രാതരുത്ഥായ യഃ പഠേത് । ശനൈശ്ചരകൃതാ പീഡാ ന കദാചിദ്ഭവിഷ്യതി ॥

അർഥം:जो प्रातः उठकर शनि के इन दस नामों का पाठ करता है, उसे शनैश्चर द्वारा की गई पीड़ा कभी नहीं होती।

शनि मन्त्र പാരായണ ഫലങ്ങൾ
The Shani Beej Mantra (Om Praam Preem Praum Sah Shanaishcharaya Namah) is the core remedy for a weak or afflicted Saturn, Sade Sati, Dhaiya and Shani Mahadasha.
Recited to gain Shani's blessings of discipline, justice, patience and steady, lasting success, and to soften his harsh karmic lessons.
The Nilanjan Samabhasam dhyana verse is chanted to meditate upon Shani's form before japa; the ten-name (Pippalada) mantra is said to ward off all Shani-caused suffering when read at dawn.
Believed to relieve obstacles, delays, debts, joint pain, legal troubles and the hardships of an ill-placed Saturn.
Most powerful on Saturday (Shanivar), Shani Jayanti and Shani Amavasya, ideally with a mustard/sesame-oil lamp.
The beej mantra is chanted in multiples of 108; the traditional remedial count is 23,000 repetitions over time.
शनि मन्त्र പാരായണ വിധി
On Saturday after bathing, sit facing west and light a lamp of mustard or sesame (til) oil, ideally before Shani Dev or under a Peepal tree. Offer black sesame, urad dal and blue/black flowers. Chant the Shani Beej Mantra 'Om Praam Preem Praum Sah Shanaishcharaya Namah' 108 times on an iron or rudraksha mala, then recite the Nilanjan Samabhasam dhyana and the ten names. Reciting the ten names at dawn daily is said to keep Shani's affliction away.
