Brihaspati is the Guru of the gods (Devaguru) and lord of the planet Jupiter — the giver of wisdom, righteousness, prosperity and good fortune. Worshipped especially on Thursdays alongside Lord Vishnu (whose day Thursday is), his aarti is sung with offerings of yellow — bananas, gram and jaggery — to win his benevolent grace.

Om jaya brihaspati deva Chhina chhina bhoga lagaun kadali phala meva

అర్థం:Om, victory to you, Brihaspati Dev (Jupiter, the divine Guru); moment by moment I offer you bhog of bananas, fruit and dry fruits.

శ్లోకం 2

తుమ పూరణ పరమాత్మా తుమ అన్తర్యామీ । జగతపితా జగదీశ్వర తుమ సబకే స్వామీ ॥

Tuma purana paramatma tuma antaryami Jagatapita jagadishvara tuma sabake svami

అర్థం:You are the perfect Supreme Self, the indweller of all; father of the world, Lord of the universe, the master of all.

శ్లోకం 3

చరణామృత నిజ నిర్మల సబ పాతక హర్తా । సకల మనోరథ దాయక కృపా కరో భర్తా ॥

Charanamrita nija nirmala saba pataka harta Sakala manoratha dayaka kripa karo bharta

అర్థం:The nectar of your feet is pure and washes away every sin; granter of every wish — show your grace, O Lord.

శ్లోకం 4

ధన అర్పణ కర జో జన శరణ పడ़ే । ప్రభు ప్రకట తబ హోకర ఆకర ద్వార ఖడ़ే ॥

Dhana arpana kara jo jana sharana pada़e Prabhu prakata taba hokara akara dvara khada़e

అర్థం:Whoever offers his wealth and falls at your refuge — the Lord then appears and stands manifest at his door.

శ్లోకం 5

దీనదయాల దయానిధి భక్తన హితకారీ । పాప దోష సబ హర్తా భవ బన్ధన హారీ ॥

Dinadayala dayanidhi bhaktana hitakari Papa dosha saba harta bhava bandhana hari

అర్థం:Compassionate to the lowly, ocean of mercy, benefactor of devotees; remover of all sin and fault, breaker of worldly bondage.

శ్లోకం 6

సకల మనోరథ దాయక సబ సంశయ హారో । విషయ వికార మిటాఓ సన్తన సుఖకారీ ॥

Sakala manoratha dayaka saba samshaya haro Vishaya vikara mitao santana sukhakari

అర్థం:Granter of every desire, dispeller of all doubt; destroy the cravings of the senses, O bringer of joy to the saints.

శ్లోకం 7

జో కోఈ ఆరతీ తేరీ ప్రేమ సహిత గావే । జేఠానన్ద ఆనన్దకర సో నిశ్చయ పావే ॥

Jo koi arati teri prema sahita gave Jethananda anandakara so nishchaya pave

అర్థం:Whoever sings your aarti with love — Jethanand (the devotee), the giver of bliss, surely attains (his wish).

Light a lamp (ghee or camphor) and, holding it, perform the aarti by circling it before the deity while singing, ideally with a bell. Offer flowers and prasad, and conclude by taking the aarti blessing (passing the hands over the flame and to the eyes). Sing with devotion and a steady heart.
