In the Hanuman Chalisa, after hailing Hanuman as the ocean of wisdom, Goswami Tulsidas devotes this second verse to establishing who Hanuman is: the faithful messenger of Lord Rama and the abode of immeasurable strength, born of mother Anjana and the wind-god. The line distils the dual nature celebrated throughout the Ramayana — Hanuman's perfect devotion joined with his unmatched might.
