Meaning

This cherished single-verse pranama (obeisance) salutes Srimati Radharani by four beautiful names — She of the molten-gold complexion, the queen of Vrindavana, the daughter of King Vrishabhanu, and the dearmost beloved of Sri Krishna. It is one of the most widely recited Radha pranama mantras in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition.

Origin & Story

Traditional Gaudiya Vaishnava Radha pranama mantra · Unknown (traditional) · Medieval Bhakti / Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition

This verse is the standard pranama-mantra offered to Srimati Radharani in Gaudiya Vaishnava worship. By describing Her radiant golden form, Her sovereignty over Vrindavana, Her appearance as the daughter of Vrishabhanu, and Her supreme position as Krishna's beloved, the devotee approaches Krishna through Radha — for it is taught that Krishna is most easily pleased through the grace of His dearmost devotee, Radharani.

As told in scripture

Vaishnava saints teach that one who takes shelter of Radha gains entry into the loving service of Krishna; devotees relate that sincere obeisance to 'Vrindavaneshvari' has opened their hearts to a sweetness of devotion they could never attain by their own effort.
