This stotra is attributed to Vibhishana and preserved in the Sri Sudarshana Samhita. Vibhishana, who had witnessed Hanuman's countless rescues during the Ramayana war — above all the bringing of the Sanjivani mountain to save Lakshmana's life — composed this hymn to Hanuman as the supreme remover of danger. The meditation verses paint Hanuman holding the mountain in one hand and a weapon to destroy enemies in the other, capturing his dual role as healer and protector. The closing verses form a phala-shruti listing the many calamities from which the devotee is freed.

The most famous deed behind this stotra is Hanuman lifting and carrying the entire Sanjivani mountain across the sky to revive Lakshmana, who lay mortally wounded by Indrajit's Shakti weapon. Because Hanuman thus literally rescued life from the brink of death, devotees trust this 'Apaduddharaka' hymn to lift them out of the gravest dangers, and its verses promise that for those who remember him 'there is no danger anywhere.'

Of this great mantra-hymn, the 'Apaduddharaka Hanuman Stotram', the seer is Vibhishana, the deity is Hanuman; by the grace of Sri Hanuman, the rescuer from all calamity, for the removal of all my misfortunes and for success and favourable outcomes in all undertakings, it is applied in recitation.

ਅਰਥ:I worship Anjaneya (Hanuman) with blazing earrings, who carries in his left hand that which splits his enemies, and in the other the mountain (Sanjivani), holding the bright crag — of pure, dark, collyrium-like radiance.

ਅਰਥ:I take refuge in that Anjaneya, clad in a loincloth, with raised limbs, gleaming sacred girdle and thread, wearing earrings, with his long lock of hair flowing.

ਅਰਥ:To Sri Hanuman, the remover of the distress of all afflicted worlds, the destroyer of sudden, unexpected calamities — salutations, again and again.
ਸੀਤਾਵਿਯੁਕ੍ਤਸ਼੍ਰੀਰਾਮਸ਼ੋਕਦੁਃਖਭਯਾਪਹ। ਤਾਪਤ੍ਰਿਤਯਸਂਹਾਰਿਨ੍ਨਾਞ੍ਜਨੇਯ ਨਮੋऽਸ੍ਤੁ ਤੇ॥੪॥
Seetaaviyukta-shreeraama-shoka-duhkha-bhayaapaha, Taapatritaya-samhaarinn-aanjaneya namo'stu te. (4)
ਅਰਥ:O Anjaneya, remover of the grief, sorrow and fear of Sri Rama when separated from Sita, destroyer of the threefold suffering — salutations be to you.

Aadhi-vyaadhi-mahaamaaree-grahapeedaa-pahaarine, Praanaapahartre daityaanaam raamapraanaatmane namah. (5)
ਅਰਥ:To the remover of mental anguish, disease, epidemics and the torment of malefic planets; to the one who takes away the life of demons and who is the very life-breath of Rama — salutations.
ਸਂਸਾਰਸਾਗਰਾਵਰ੍ਤਕਰ੍ਤਵ੍ਯਭ੍ਰਾਨ੍ਤਚੇਤਸਾਮ੍। ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤਮਰ੍ਤ੍ਯਾਨਾਂ ਸ਼ਰਣ੍ਯਾਯ ਨਮੋऽਸ੍ਤੁ ਤੇ॥੬॥
Samsaarasaagaraavarta-kartavya-bhraantachetasaam, Sharanaagata-martyaanaam sharanyaaya namo'stu te. (6)
ਅਰਥ:To you who are the refuge of mortals who, bewildered by their duties, are caught in the whirlpool of the ocean of worldly existence and have come for shelter — salutations.
ਵਜ੍ਰਦੇਹਾਯ ਕਾਲਾਗ੍ਨਿਰੁਦ੍ਰਾਯਾਮਿਤਤੇਜਸੇ। ਬ੍ਰਹ੍ਮਾਸ੍ਤ੍ਰਸ੍ਤਮ੍ਭਨਾਯਾਸ੍ਮੈ ਨਮਃ ਸ਼੍ਰੀਰੁਦ੍ਰਮੂਰ੍ਤਯੇ॥੭॥
Vajradehaaya kaalaagni-rudraayaamitatejase, Brahmaastra-stambhanaayaasmai namah shree-rudramoortaye. (7)
ਅਰਥ:To the one with a thunderbolt body, who is Rudra of the fire of time (Kalagni), of immeasurable splendour, who can arrest even the Brahmastra — salutations to this very form of Rudra.

ਅਰਥ:Hanuman, beloved of Rama, full of compassion, remover of fear, destroyer of enemies, formidable, the bestower of all that is desired —
ਕਾਰਾਗ੍ਰਿਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਣੇ ਵਾ ਸਙ੍ਗ੍ਰਾਮੇ ਸ਼ਤ੍ਰੁਸਙ੍ਕਟੇ। ਜਲੇ ਸ੍ਥਲੇ ਤਥਾऽऽਕਾਸ਼ੇ ਵਾਹਨੇਸ਼ੁ ਚਤੁਸ਼੍ਪਥੇ॥੯॥
Kaaraagrihe prayaane vaa sangraame shatrusankate, Jale sthale tathaa''kaashe vaahaneshu chatushpathe. (9)
ਅਰਥ:in prison, on a journey, in battle, in danger from enemies, in water, on land, in the sky, in vehicles, at the crossroads,
ਗਜਸਿਂਹਮਹਾਵ੍ਯਾਘ੍ਰਚੋਰਭੀਸ਼ਣਕਾਨਨੇ। ਯੇ ਸ੍ਮਰਨ੍ਤਿ ਹਨੂਮਨ੍ਤਂ ਤੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨਾਸ੍ਤਿ ਵਿਪਤ੍ ਕ੍ਵਚਿਤ੍॥੧੦॥
Gaja-simha-mahaavyaaghra-chora-bheeshana-kaanane, Ye smaranti hanoomantam teshaam naasti vipat kvachit. (10)
ਅਰਥ:in a fearsome forest of elephants, lions, great tigers and thieves — for those who remember Hanuman, there is no danger anywhere.
ਸਰ੍ਵਵਾਨਰਮੁਖ੍ਯਾਨਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਭੂਤਾਤ੍ਮਨੇ ਨਮਃ। ਸ਼ਰਣ੍ਯਾਯ ਵਰੇਣ੍ਯਾਯ ਵਾਯੁਪੁਤ੍ਰਾਯ ਤੇ ਨਮਃ॥੧੧॥
Sarva-vaanara-mukhyaanaam praanabhootaatmane namah, Sharanyaaya varenyaaya vaayuputraaya te namah. (11)
ਅਰਥ:To the one who is the very life-soul of all the great vanaras; to you who are the refuge, the most excellent one, the son of the Wind — salutations.

Pradoshe vaa prabhaate vaa ye smaranty-anjanaasutam, Arthasiddhim jayam keertim praapnuvanti na samshayah. (12)
ਅਰਥ:Those who, at dusk or at dawn, remember the son of Anjana, attain wealth, victory and fame — there is no doubt of this.

ਅਰਥ:Having recited this hymn and mantra, the person who reads it each time gains victory when facing a king's court, an assembly, or a dispute.

ਅਰਥ:The person who, self-controlled, recites this stotra composed by Vibhishana is freed from all calamities — there is no need for deliberation in this matter.

Apaduddharaka Hanuman Stotram ਪਾਠ ਵਿਧੀ
Begin by reciting the viniyoga (the dedication that names Vibhishana as rishi and Hanuman as the deity). Then meditate on the two dhyana verses, visualizing Hanuman bearing the Sanjivani mountain, radiant with blazing earrings. Recite the full stotra with devotion, ideally at dawn or dusk as the verse advises. It is especially recited before facing a difficult situation — a court case, an interview, a journey, or any danger — since it specifically promises rescue from all calamity and victory in disputes. In an emergency, simply remembering Hanuman through this stotra is said to remove the danger.
