Kamala — 'she of the lotus' — is the radiant goddess of wealth and good fortune, identified with Lakshmi and, in the Tantric system, honoured as Kamalatmika, the tenth Mahavidya and the gentle culmination of the ten wisdom-goddesses. This stotra, traditionally traced to the Vishnu Purana, addresses her as Omkararupini and the very ground of creation, and is widely recited for prosperity, health and protection, its refrain pleading 'Prasanna bhava sundari' — be gracious, O beautiful Mother.

Oṁkārarūpiṇī devi viśuddhasattvarūpiṇī। devānāṁ jananī tvaṁ hi prasannā bhava sundari॥

பொருள்:O Goddess whose form is Om, embodiment of pure sattva, you are the mother of the gods — O beautiful one, be gracious to me.

சுலோகம் 2

தந்மாத்ரம் சைவ பூதாநி தவ வக்ஷஸ்தலம் ஸ்ம்ரு'தம்। த்வமேவ வேதகம்யா து ப்ரஸந்நா பவ ஸுந்தரி॥

Tanmātraṁ caiva bhūtāni tava vakṣasthalaṁ smṛtam। tvam eva vedagamyā tu prasannā bhava sundari॥

பொருள்:The subtle elements (tanmatras) and the gross elements are said to be your bosom; you alone are knowable through the Vedas — O beautiful one, be gracious to me.

தேவதாநவகந்தர்வயக்ஷராக்ஷஸகிந்நரைஃ। ஸ்தூயஸே த்வம் ஸதா லக்ஷ்மி ப்ரஸந்நா பவ ஸுந்தரி॥

Devadānavagandharvayakṣarākṣasakinnaraiḥ। stūyase tvaṁ sadā lakṣmi prasannā bhava sundari॥

பொருள்:By gods, demons, gandharvas, yakshas, rakshasas and kinnaras you are ever praised, O Lakshmi — O beautiful one, be gracious to me.

லோகாதீதா த்வைதாதீதா ஸமஸ்தபூதவேஷ்டிதா। வித்வஜ்ஜநகீர்திதா ச ப்ரஸந்நா பவ ஸுந்தரி॥

Lokātītā dvaitātītā samastabhūtaveṣṭitā। vidvajjanakīrtitā ca prasannā bhava sundari॥

பொருள்:Beyond the worlds, beyond duality, encompassing all beings, extolled by the wise — O beautiful one, be gracious to me.

பரிபூர்ணா ஸதா லக்ஷ்மி த்ராத்ரீ து ஶரணார்திஷு। விஶ்வாத்யா விஶ்வகர்த்ரீ ச ப்ரஸந்நா பவ ஸுந்தரி॥

Paripūrṇā sadā lakṣmi trātrī tu śaraṇārthiṣu। viśvādyā viśvakartrī ca prasannā bhava sundari॥

பொருள்:Ever complete, O Lakshmi, you are the saviour of those who take refuge in you; the origin of the universe and its maker — O beautiful one, be gracious to me.

ப்ரஹ்மரூபா ச ஸாவித்ரீ த்வத்தீப்த்யா பாஸதே ஜகத்। விஶ்வரூபா வரேண்யா ச ப்ரஸந்நா பவ ஸுந்தரி॥

Brahmarūpā ca sāvitrī tvaddīptyā bhāsate jagat। viśvarūpā vareṇyā ca prasannā bhava sundari॥

பொருள்:Of the form of Brahman, and Savitri; by your radiance the whole world shines; you are of universal form and most worthy of worship — O beautiful one, be gracious to me.

சுலோகம் 7

க்ஷித்யப்தேஜோமருத்வ்யோமபஞ்சபூதஸ்வரூபிணீ। பந்தாதேஃ காரணம் த்வம் ஹி ப்ரஸந்நா பவ ஸுந்தரி॥

Kṣityaptejomarudvyomapañcabhūtasvarūpiṇī। bandhādeḥ kāraṇaṁ tvaṁ hi prasannā bhava sundari॥

பொருள்:You are the very nature of the five elements — earth, water, fire, wind and ether; you are the cause of bondage and the rest — O beautiful one, be gracious to me.

மஹேஶே த்வம் ஹேமவதீ கமலா கேஶவேऽபி ச। ப்ரஹ்மணஃ ப்ரேயஸீ த்வம் ஹி ப்ரஸந்நா பவ ஸுந்தரி॥

Maheśe tvaṁ hemavatī kamalā keśave'pi ca। brahmaṇaḥ preyasī tvaṁ hi prasannā bhava sundari॥

பொருள்:To Mahesha (Shiva) you are Hemavati (Parvati), to Keshava (Vishnu) you are Kamala, and you are the beloved of Brahma — O beautiful one, be gracious to me.

சுலோகம் 9

சண்டீ துர்கா காலிகா ச கௌஶிகீ ஸித்திரூபிணீ। யோகிநீ யோககம்யா ச ப்ரஸந்நா பவ ஸுந்தரி॥

Caṇḍī durgā kālikā ca kauśikī siddhirūpiṇī। yoginī yogagamyā ca prasannā bhava sundari॥

பொருள்:You are Chandi, Durga, Kalika, Kaushiki and the embodiment of all attainment; you are the Yogini, attainable through yoga — O beautiful one, be gracious to me.

சுலோகம் 10

த்வமாதிர்ஜகதாம் தேவி த்வமேவ ஸ்திதிகாரணம்। த்வமந்தே நிதநஸ்தாநம் ஸ்வேச்சாசாரா த்வமேவ ஹி॥

Tvam ādir jagatāṁ devi tvam eva sthitikāraṇam। tvam ante nidhanasthānaṁ svecchācārā tvam eva hi॥

பொருள்:You are the beginning of the worlds, O Goddess; you alone are the cause of their sustenance; in the end you are the place of their dissolution; you alone act by your own free will.

சுலோகம் 11

த்வதாஜ்ஞயா து தேவேஶி ககநே ஸூர்யமண்டலம்। சந்த்ரஶ்ச ப்ரமதே நித்யம் ப்ரஸந்நா பவ ஸுந்தரி॥

Tvadājñayā tu deveśi gagane sūryamaṇḍalam। candraś ca bhramate nityaṁ prasannā bhava sundari॥

பொருள்:By your command, O Empress of the gods, the orb of the sun and the moon ever revolve in the sky — O beautiful one, be gracious to me.

சுலோகம் 12

லக்ஷ்மீஸ்தோத்ரமிதம் புண்யம் யஃ படேத்பக்திஸம்யுதஃ। ஸர்வஜ்வரபயம் நஶ்யேத்ஸர்வவ்யாதிநிவாரணம்॥

Lakṣmīstotram idaṁ puṇyaṁ yaḥ paṭhed bhaktisaṁyutaḥ। sarvajvarabhayaṁ naśyet sarvavyādhinivāraṇam॥

பொருள்:Whoever, full of devotion, recites this holy hymn to Lakshmi — all fear of fever is destroyed and all disease is warded off. This hymn is of great merit and the cause of rescue from calamity; the man who recites it constantly, at the three twilights or even once, is freed from all sins and from every danger — of this there is no doubt, on earth, in heaven or in the nether world.

இதம் ஸ்தோத்ரம் மஹாபுண்யமாபதுத்தாரகாரணம்। த்ரிஸந்த்யமேகஸந்த்யம் வா யஃ படேத்ஸததம் நரஃ॥

Idaṁ stotraṁ mahāpuṇyam āpaduddhārakāraṇam। trisandhyam ekasandhyaṁ vā yaḥ paṭhet satataṁ naraḥ॥

முச்யதே ஸர்வபாபேப்யஸ்ததா து ஸர்வஸம்கடாத்। முச்யதே நாத்ர ஸந்தேஹோ புவி ஸ்வர்கே ரஸாதலே॥

Mucyate sarvapāpebhyas tathā tu sarvasaṁkaṭāt। mucyate nātra sandeho bhuvi svarge rasātale॥

Bathe and sit in a clean place before an image of Goddess Lakshmi/Kamala, ideally with a lamp, lotus or red flowers. Recite the verses with devotion, letting the refrain 'Prasanna bhava sundari' carry your prayer for her grace. The phala-shruti states that reciting it at the three twilights, or even once, frees one from sin and danger; daily morning recitation is excellent for the blessings of wealth and wellbeing. Conclude by bowing and seeking the Mother's grace.

Kamala, or Kamalatmika, is the tenth and final of the ten Mahavidyas and is regarded as the Tantric form of Mahalakshmi. Seated on a lotus and bathed by elephants, she is the goddess of wealth, beauty, fertility and auspiciousness, representing the fully manifest, benevolent grace of the Divine Mother in the world.

This hymn, beginning 'Omkararupini Devi', is traditionally drawn from the Vishnu Purana and is recited as a stotra to Lakshmi/Kamala. Each verse closes with the refrain 'Prasanna bhava sundari' — 'O beautiful one, be gracious to me'.

The verses declare that she is Parvati (Hemavati) to Shiva, Kamala to Vishnu, the beloved of Brahma, and also Chandi, Durga, Kalika and Kaushiki. This reflects the Shakta vision that all goddesses are forms of the one Supreme Power — Kamala is that single Mother seen in her gracious, wealth-bestowing aspect.

The closing verses promise that one who recites this holy hymn with devotion has all fear of fever and disease removed; and that whoever recites it constantly, at the three twilights or even once, is freed from all sins and every calamity — whether on earth, in heaven or in the nether world.
