The Saraswati Suktam draws together the Rigveda's earliest and most beloved invocations of Saraswati. The Mandala 2 verses, ascribed to the seer Gritsamada, address her as 'best of mothers, best of rivers, best of goddesses', while the Mandala 1 verses of Madhuchhandas hail her as the purifier and inspirer of truthful speech and noble thought. Together they form the liturgical Saraswati Suktam recited in worship of the goddess of knowledge, especially during Saraswati Puja and the beginning of learning.
✦ శాస్త్రాలలో చెప్పినట్లు
It is traditionally held that sincere recitation of the Saraswati Suktam, particularly the verse 'Chodayitri sunritanam, chetanti sumatinam', unlocks the power of speech and intellect — many devotees credit it with overcoming stammering, dullness of mind and fear before examinations, and with awakening sudden clarity and creative inspiration.

ఓం అమ్బితమే నదీతమే దేవితమే సరస్వతి। అప్రశస్తా ఇవ స్మసి ప్రశస్తిమమ్బ నస్కృధి॥
Om ambitame naditame devitame Sarasvati; Aprashasta iva smasi prashastimamba naskridhi.
అర్థం:ॐ। हे श्रेष्ठतम माता, हे श्रेष्ठतम नदी, हे श्रेष्ठतम देवी सरस्वति — हम मानो प्रशंसारहित हैं; हे माता, हमें प्रशस्ति (यश) प्रदान करो।
త్వే విశ్వా సరస్వతి శ్రితాయూంషి దేవ్యామ్। శునహోత్రేషు మత్స్వ ప్రజాం దేవి దిదిడ్ఢి నః॥
Tve vishva Sarasvati shritayumshi devyam; Shunahotreshu matsva prajam devi dididdhi nah.
అర్థం:हे दिव्य सरस्वति, तुझमें ही हमारी समस्त आयु (प्राणशक्ति) आश्रित है; हे देवी, यज्ञ में प्रसन्न हो और हमें सन्तति प्रदान करो।
ఇమా బ్రహ్మ సరస్వతి జుషస్వ వాజినీవతి। యా తే మన్మ గృత్సమదా ఋతావరి ప్రియా దేవేషు జుహ్వతి॥
Ima brahma Sarasvati jushasva vajinivati; Ya te manma gritsamada ritavari priya deveshu juhvati.
అర్థం:हे बलशालिनी सरस्वति, इन स्तुतियों को स्वीकार करो — जिन मन्त्रों को सत्यप्रिय गृत्समद ऋषि देवताओं को प्रिय रूप से अर्पित करते हैं।
పావకా నః సరస్వతీ వాజేభిర్వాజినీవతీ। యజ్ఞం వష్టు ధియావసుః॥
Pavaka nah Sarasvati vajebhirvajinivati; Yajnam vashtu dhiyavasuh.
అర్థం:पावन करने वाली, अन्न और बल से सम्पन्न, बुद्धि-रूपी धन वाली सरस्वती हमारे यज्ञ को सुशोभित करे।
చోదయిత్రీ సూనృతానాం చేతన్తీ సుమతీనామ్। యజ్ఞం దధే సరస్వతీ॥
Chodayitri sunritanam chetanti sumatinam; Yajnam dadhe Sarasvati.
అర్థం:मधुर एवं सत्य वाणी की प्रेरयित्री, शुभ बुद्धियों की जागृति करने वाली सरस्वती यज्ञ को धारण करती है।
మహో అర్ణః సరస్వతీ ప్ర చేతయతి కేతునా। ధియో విశ్వా వి రాజతి॥
Maho arnah Sarasvati pra chetayati ketuna; Dhiyo vishva vi rajati.
అర్థం:सरस्वती, प्रेरणा की महान धारा, अपने केतु (प्रकाश-ध्वज) से ज्ञान को प्रकट करती है; वह समस्त बुद्धियों को प्रकाशित कर उन पर शासन करती है।
ఓం సరస్వత్యై నమః॥ ఓం శాన్తిః శాన్తిః శాన్తిః॥
Om Sarasvatyai namah. Om shantih shantih shantih.
అర్థం:ॐ सरस्वत्यै नमः। ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः।

सरस्वती सूक्तम् పారాయణ విధి
Sit facing east in a clean, quiet place, preferably before an image of Goddess Saraswati. Chant each verse clearly with devotion, dwelling on Saraswati as the source of speech, wisdom and learning, and conclude with 'Om Sarasvatyai namah' and the threefold shanti. It is especially auspicious to recite it before beginning studies, examinations, or any creative or scholarly work.
