మూలం & కథ
Atma Bodha (Self-Knowledge), Verse 2 · Adi Shankaracharya · c. 8th century CE
The Atma Bodha is a concise introductory text of Advaita Vedanta, composed by Adi Shankaracharya for sincere seekers who have purified their minds and long for liberation. After the opening verse states for whom the work is intended, this second verse lays its foundation: that among all means, Self-Knowledge alone directly grants liberation — the theme the rest of the text then unfolds.
✦ శాస్త్రాలలో చెప్పినట్లు
Atma Bodha promises that the one who realizes the knowledge it imparts becomes free even while living, beholding the one Self in all beings, and is never again touched by sorrow or rebirth — for, as this verse declares, such liberating knowledge is the very fire that consumes the bondage of ignorance.

అర్థం:Knowledge alone is the direct means of liberation, far above all other practices; just as cooking is impossible without fire, so liberation cannot be attained without Knowledge (of the Self).

Bodho'nyasadhanebhyo Hi (Atma Bodha 2) పారాయణ విధి
Recite the verse and reflect on its teaching: other practices prepare the ground, but only Knowledge liberates, as fire alone cooks. Use it to begin a session of scriptural study (sravana) and self-inquiry. As a contemplative shloka from the Atma Bodha, it is most fruitful when pondered; repeating it 11 or 21 times helps anchor it in memory.
