మూలం & కథ

Tantric and Vedic tradition; Shaiva Agamas and bija-mantra texts · Tantric and Vedic seers (traditional) · Ancient

In the Shaiva tantras, Hraum is the seed (beej) of Shiva — the sound-body of the auspicious supreme reality. Composed of 'Ha' (Shiva, ether), 'Ra' (fire), 'Au' (Sadashiva) and the bindu, it gathers Shiva's power of pure awareness and dissolution into a single syllable. Shiva is the great yogi and the lord of meditation and liberation, and Hraum is therefore prized as a seed for stilling the mind, burning ignorance and realising the ever-auspicious Self.

శాస్త్రాలలో చెప్పినట్లు

It is told that sustained meditation on Shiva's seed-sound dissolves the mind into the boundless silence of pure awareness, where the devotee tastes the peace of Shiva himself. In the tradition of Mrityunjaya, sincere invocation of Shiva's seed is said to have turned aside untimely death and restored failing health, just as Shiva once granted Markandeya victory over death.

ఉత్తమ సమయంBrahma Muhurta (pre-dawn), Mondays, Pradosh Kaal, and Maha Shivaratri

Sit facing east or north in a clean, quiet place before a Shiva Lingam or image of Shiva, with a lamp and ideally bilva (bel) leaves. Calm the breath and chant 'Om Hraum Namah Shivaya' (or simply 'Hraum') 108 times using a rudraksha mala. Pronounce 'Hraum' as 'ha-rau-m', letting the bindu dissolve into silence and resting in the stillness that follows. Mondays, Pradosh Kaal and Maha Shivaratri are especially powerful, and it pairs naturally with 'Om Namah Shivaya'. A daily, meditative practice deepens its peace.

Hraum (ह्रौं) is the seed (beej) syllable of Lord Shiva. It has no dictionary meaning but is a concentrated sound carrying Shiva's energy of pure consciousness, auspiciousness, meditation and liberation. It is formed of 'Ha' (Shiva/ether), 'Ra' (fire), 'Au' (Sadashiva) and the bindu, and is often chanted as 'Om Hraum Namah Shivaya'.
Hraum is the seed (beej) mantra of Shiva (Mahadeva / Sadashiva), the auspicious supreme reality and the inner Self. It is also connected with Shiva as Mrityunjaya, the conqueror of death, in mantras for healing and protection.
'Om Namah Shivaya' is the great five-syllable (panchakshara) devotional mantra of Shiva. 'Hraum' is his single-syllable seed (beej) — the concentrated sonic essence of Shiva. The two are often combined as 'Om Hraum Namah Shivaya', uniting the seed's power with the devotional salutation.
The pre-dawn Brahma Muhurta and Mondays (Shiva's day) are ideal. Pradosh Kaal (twilight on the 13th lunar day) and especially Maha Shivaratri are the most auspicious occasions to deepen Shiva sadhana with Hraum.
