ଉତ୍ପତ୍ତି ଓ କଥା

Durga Saptashati (Devi Mahatmyam) Chapter 11 — Narayani Stuti, verses 28, 11, 9; from the Markandeya Purana · Sage Markandeya (traditional) · Ancient (the Devi Mahatmyam is dated to c. 5th-6th century CE)

When the Goddess had slain Shumbha and freed the three worlds, Indra and the gods sang the Narayani Stuti in gratitude. Amid its praises they declared that, pleased, she takes away every disease, and that those who take refuge in her know no calamity. These lines — together with the great refrains 'Sharanagata-dinarta-paritrana-parayane' and 'Sarva-mangala-mangalye' — became among the most recited prayers to the Mother for health, refuge and auspiciousness.

ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରରେ କୁହାଯାଇଥିବା ପରି

Across generations, families have recited 'Rogan-asheshan apahamsi tushta' at the bedside of the sick, trusting the Goddess's own word that a pleased Mother removes all illness. Many testify that combined with sincere surrender and the Narayani Stuti during Navaratri, this verse brings comfort, recovery and renewed strength where medicine alone seemed to fall short.

Light a lamp before an image of Durga or Narayani and recite the verses with devotion after 'Om'. This verse is widely chanted as a prayer for health and recovery — for oneself or on behalf of someone who is ill. Recite it slowly, resting the mind on the promise 'rogan asheshan apahamsi tushta' (when pleased, you take away all diseases). Repeating it 11 or 21 times, or as part of a full Narayani Stuti during Navaratri, is a traditional practice for healing and protection.

It means 'When pleased, you destroy all diseases without exception.' It is the Devi Mahatmyam's promise that a gratified Goddess removes every illness, which is why this verse is treasured as a prayer for health and healing.
It is from the Narayani Stuti in Chapter 11 of the Durga Saptashati (Devi Mahatmyam), part of the Markandeya Purana, sung by the gods after the Goddess slew the asura Shumbha. The accompanying 'Sharanagata-dinarta' and 'Sarva-mangala-mangalye' are from the same hymn.
Yes. Because it names the Goddess as the remover of all diseases when she is pleased, devotees commonly recite it for recovery from illness, both for themselves and on behalf of someone who is unwell, alongside heartfelt surrender to the Mother.
The verse says that those who take shelter in the Goddess are not only freed from calamity themselves but become so strong in her grace that others can in turn take refuge in them. It points to the protective power that flows through a true devotee.
