Brahmanda Purana (Shukra Kavacham) · Sage Bharadvaja (rishi of the mantra) · Puranic

The Shukra Kavacham is preserved in the Brahmanda Purana, with the sage Bharadvaja named as its rishi and Anushtup as its metre. It belongs to the family of planetary (Navagraha) armour-hymns recited for graha-shanti, the pacification of the nine planets. Shukra (Venus) is the brilliant son of the sage Bhrigu and the preceptor of the Asuras, master of the Mritasanjivani vidya and lord of love, beauty, art and wealth; this kavacha invokes him by his many names to shield the devotee limb by limb and to bless him with the comforts, harmony and prosperity that Venus governs.

ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରରେ କୁହାଯାଇଥିବା ପରି

The kavacha's phalashruti gives a simple, sweeping assurance — 'na tasya jayate pida bhargavasya prasadatah': that for one who recites this divine armour with faith, no affliction whatsoever ever arises, by the grace of Bhargava (Shukra), the radiant lord of fortune who, in legend, even held the secret to reviving the dead.

Shukra Kavacham ପାଠର ଲାଭ

A limb-by-limb 'kavacha' (armour) invoking Venus's protection over the whole body; its phalashruti promises that no affliction arises for the faithful reciter.

Venus (Shukra) rules love, marriage, beauty, art, music, luxury and wealth — the kavacha is recited for marital happiness, attraction, artistic talent and prosperity.

A traditional remedy (parihara) for a weak or afflicted Venus and for delays or troubles in marriage and relationships.

Invokes Shukra as 'Jadyahara', remover of dullness, and 'Jnanavatam vara', best of the wise — chanted for intelligence, eloquence and creative inspiration.

Said to bring comforts, vehicles, fine garments, jewellery and the enjoyments (bhoga) of life that Venus bestows.

Strengthens a beneficial Venus dasha or transit and protects against the loss of relationships, reputation and wealth.

Most auspicious when recited on Fridays (Shukravara), the weekday of Venus, with white flowers and offerings.

Shukra Kavacham ପାଠ ବିଧି

ଜପ ସଂଖ୍ୟା1ଥର
ଉତ୍ତମ ସମୟFridays (Shukravara), the day of Venus; also during Navagraha puja

Bathe and sit facing east or north before an image of Shukra or the Navagraha, ideally with a ghee lamp and offerings of white or fragrant flowers, white sandal, sugar or curd, and white cloth. Recite the viniyoga, then the dhyana (meditation) verse on Kavi, then the kavacha verses guarding each limb, and finally the phalashruti. It is most powerful on Fridays and may be recited daily through a difficult Venus dasha or for harmony in marriage and relationships.

The Shukra Kavacham is a protective hymn to the planet Venus (Shukra), found in the Brahmanda Purana. A 'kavacha' is a spiritual armour: each verse asks Shukra — under names such as Bhargava, Kavya and Ushanas — to guard a specific part of the body, surrounding the devotee with Venus's auspicious energy.
Because Venus governs love, marriage, beauty, art and wealth, it is chanted for marital happiness, attraction, artistic and creative talent, comforts and prosperity. Its own phalashruti also promises that the faithful reciter suffers no affliction, by the grace of Bhargava (Shukra).
On Fridays (Shukravara), the weekday ruled by Venus, and during any Navagraha puja, ideally with white or fragrant flowers, white sandal and a lamp. For a remedy it may be recited daily through the period of an adverse Venus dasha or transit, or for delays in marriage.
Shukra is the planetary deity of Venus and the guru of the Asuras (Daityas), the wise son of the sage Bhrigu — hence Bhargava, Kavya, Kavi and Ushanas. He is famed as the master of all scriptures and the holder of the Mritasanjivani (the science of reviving the dead), and presides over love, beauty, art and wealth.
