Hanumad Vadvanala Stotra — a Tantric protective hymn from the Hanuman devotional tradition · Traditionally ascribed to Vibhishana (the viniyoga names Sri Ramachandra as the rishi) · Classical / medieval Tantric tradition, rooted in the Ramayana legend

According to tradition, this hymn was composed by Vibhishana, Ravana's brother and a great devotee of Rama. Having seen Hanuman set Lanka ablaze with his burning tail and crush the rakshasa army, Vibhishana was awestruck by the monkey-hero's power and praised him as 'Vadvanala' — the submarine fire that devours all. The stotra is cast in the form of a fierce protective mantra: rather than only describing Hanuman's deeds (burning Lanka, bridging the ocean, severing Ravana's heads, comforting Sita), it directly commands the removal of fevers, spirits, malefic planets and every danger, making it one of the most potent Hanuman kavacha-style prayers for protection and healing.

Devotees afflicted by relentless fevers, mysterious illnesses or the torment of black magic and evil spirits have long turned to this stotra, and tradition holds that reciting it daily for forty-one days has freed many from sufferings that no other remedy could touch. It is told that wherever this hymn is chanted with faith, Hanuman stands as a wall of fire around the home, so that no spirit, curse or malefic planet may cross to harm the devotee.

Meaning:ॐ ह्रां ह्रीं ॐ। प्रकट पराक्रम वाले, अपने यश के वितान से समस्त दिशाओं और तीनों लोकों को धवल करने वाले, वज्रदेह, रुद्र के अवतार, लंकापुरी को दग्ध करने वाले, उमा के अर्गला-मन्त्र के स्वामी, समुद्र को बाँधने वाले, दशमुख (रावण) के शिरों को काटने वाले, सीता को आश्वासन देने वाले, वायुपुत्र, अञ्जनी के गर्भ से उत्पन्न, श्रीराम-लक्ष्मण को आनन्द देने वाले, वानरसेना के प्राकार, सुग्रीव के सहायक, पर्वतों को उखाड़ने वाले, कुमार ब्रह्मचारी, गम्भीर नाद वाले, समस्त पाप-ग्रहों के निवारक, समस्त ज्वरों के उच्चाटक, डाकिनियों के विध्वंसक — श्रीमहाहनुमान् को नमस्कार।

Meaning:ॐ ह्रां ह्रीं ॐ। महावीरों में वीर, समस्त दुःखों के निवारक भगवान को नमस्कार: ग्रहमण्डल, समस्त भूतमण्डल और समस्त पिशाचमण्डल को उच्चाटित करो! भूतज्वर, एकाहिक, द्वयाहिक, त्र्याहिक, चातुर्थिक ज्वर, सततज्वर, विषमज्वर, तापज्वर तथा माहेश्वर और वैष्णव ज्वरों को छिन्न करो, छिन्न करो! भिन्न करो, भिन्न करो! यक्ष, ब्रह्मराक्षस, भूत, प्रेत, पिशाचों को उच्चाटित करो, उच्चाटित करो!
