Attributed to Tulsidas, from the tradition of Ramcharitmanas · Goswami Tulsidas · 16th century CE
Bajrang Baan was composed by Goswami Tulsidas as a powerful prayer-arrow (baan) invoking Hanuman's fierce protective form. According to tradition, Tulsidas composed this prayer when he himself faced threats from evil forces and needed Hanuman's urgent intervention. The word 'Baan' means arrow, signifying that this prayer strikes like a divine arrow against all negative forces.

निश्चय प्रेम प्रतीति ते, बिनय करैं सनमान। तेहि के कारज सकल शुभ, सिद्ध करैं हनुमान॥
Nishchay Prem Pratiti Te, Binay Karai Sanmaan. Tehi Ke Karaj Sakal Shubh, Siddh Karai Hanuman.
Meaning:With firm faith, love, and humility, one who prays with respect — Hanuman fulfills all their auspicious tasks.
जय हनुमंत संत हितकारी। सुन लीजै प्रभु अरज हमारी॥
Jai Hanumant Sant Hitkari. Sun Leejai Prabhu Araj Hamari.
Meaning:Glory to Hanuman, benefactor of saints. O Lord, please listen to our humble request.
जन के काज बिलंब न कीजै। आतुर दौरि महा सुख दीजै॥
Jan Ke Kaaj Bilamb Na Keejai. Aatur Dauri Maha Sukh Deejai.
Meaning:Do not delay in the work of your devotee. Rush eagerly and grant us great happiness.
जैसे कूदि सिंधु महि पारा। सुरसा बदन पैठि बिस्तारा॥
Jaise Kudi Sindhu Mahi Para. Surasa Badan Paithi Bistara.
Meaning:Just as you leapt across the vast ocean, and entered and expanded within Surasa's mouth.
आगे जाय लंकिनी रोका। मारेहु लात गई सुर लोका॥
Aage Jaay Lankini Roka. Marehu Laat Gayi Sur Loka.
Meaning:When Lankini blocked your path ahead, you kicked her and she was sent to the heavenly realm.
जाय बिभीषन को सुख दीन्हा। सीता निरखि परम पद लीन्हा॥
Jaay Bibhishan Ko Sukh Deenha. Sita Nirakhi Param Pad Leenha.
Meaning:You went and gave comfort to Vibhishana. Seeing Sita, you attained the supreme state of bliss.
बाग उजारि सिंधु महँ बोरा। अति आतुर जम कातर तोरा॥
Baag Ujaari Sindhu Mah Bora. Ati Aatur Jam Katar Tora.
Meaning:You destroyed the garden and threw trees into the ocean. Even Death trembles in fear before you.
अक्षय कुमार मारि संहारा। लूम लपेटि लंक को जारा॥
Akshay Kumar Maari Sanhara. Loom Lapeti Lank Ko Jara.
Meaning:You killed Akshayakumara in battle. You wrapped your tail and set Lanka ablaze.
लाह समान लंक जरि गई। जय जय धुनि सुरपुर नभ भई॥
Laah Samaan Lank Jari Gayi. Jai Jai Dhuni Surpur Nabh Bhayi.
Meaning:Lanka burned like lac. The sounds of victory echoed through heaven and sky.
अब बिलंब केहि कारन स्वामी। कृपा करहु उर अंतरयामी॥
Ab Bilamb Kehi Karan Swami. Kripa Karahu Ur Antaryami.
Meaning:Now why do you delay, O Master? Be merciful, O knower of all hearts.
जय जय लखन प्रान के दाता। आतुर ह्वै दुख करहु निपाता॥
Jai Jai Lakhan Pran Ke Data. Aatur Hwai Dukh Karahu Nipata.
Meaning:Glory to you, giver of life to Lakshman! Come urgently and destroy all suffering.
जै गिरिधर जै जै सुखसागर। सुर समूह समरथ भट नागर॥
Jai Giridhar Jai Jai Sukhsagar. Sur Samuh Samarath Bhat Nagar.
Meaning:Glory to the mountain-bearer, ocean of bliss! O mighty warrior among the hosts of gods.
ओम हनु हनु हनु हनुमंत हठीले। बैरिहि मारु बज्र की कीले॥

Meaning:Om — O determined Hanuman! Strike the enemy with thunderbolt nails.

Meaning:Om Hrim — O Hanuman, lord of monkeys! Om Hum — pierce the enemy's heart and head.

Meaning:Glory to the mighty son of Anjani! Incarnation of Shiva, brave Hanuman.
बदन कराल काल कुल घालक। राम सहाय सदा प्रतिपालक॥

Meaning:With a terrifying face, destroyer of Death's lineage. Always sustained and aided by Lord Ram.
भूत प्रेत पिशाच निशाचर। अग्नि बेताल काल मारी मर॥

Meaning:Ghosts, evil spirits, demons, and night-wanderers — fire spirits, vampires, plague, and death —
इन्हें मारु तोहि शपथ राम की। राखु नाथ मरजाद नाम की॥

Meaning:Destroy them all! I adjure you by Lord Ram's oath. O Lord, uphold the honor of your name.
जनक सुता हरि दास कहावो। ताकी शपथ बिलंब न लावो॥
Janak Suta Hari Das Kahavo. Taki Shapath Bilamb Na Lavo.
Meaning:You are called the servant of Hari and daughter of Janak (Sita). By her oath, do not delay!
जै जै जै धुनि होत अकाशा। सुमिरत होय दुसह दुख नाशा॥

Meaning:Victorious sounds of 'Jai Jai Jai' echo through the sky. By your remembrance, unbearable suffering is destroyed.
चरन शरण कर जोरि मनावौं। यहि औसर को न पार लगावौं॥

Meaning:I take refuge at your feet with folded hands and pray — at this moment, who else but you can take me across?

Meaning:Glory, glory to the brave Hanuman! Bajrang Bali, the mighty hero!

Meaning:Your nails themselves are weapons. Before them, all fears lose heart.

How to Chant बजरंग बाण
Bajrang Baan is an extremely powerful prayer and must be recited with full devotion and discipline. Light a mustard oil lamp before a Hanuman idol. Apply sindoor (vermilion) tilak. Sit facing south or east. Recite with intense faith and unwavering concentration. This is traditionally chanted during times of grave danger or when facing serious threats. It should be recited 7 times for maximum effect. Maintain brahmacharya (celibacy) on the day of recitation. Do not recite casually — this is considered a spiritual weapon.
