Surya, the Sun God, is the one deity visible to all eyes — the source of life, light and health, riding his chariot of seven horses driven by the charioteer Aruna. From the Vedic Gayatri to the Aditya Hridaya that Agastya taught Rama, the Sun has been worshipped at dawn across the ages; this aarti is sung after offering Arghya to the rising Sun.

It was by reciting the Aditya Hridaya at the Sun's blessing that Rama found the strength to defeat Ravana. Devotees offer water (Arghya) to the rising Sun, recite his aarti, and report renewed health, vigour, eyesight and confidence flowing into their lives.

Om jaya surya bhagavana, jaya ho dinakara bhagavana Jagat ke netra svarupa tuma ho triguna svarupa, dharata saba hi tava dhyana
അർഥം:Om, victory to Surya Bhagavan, victory to the day-maker (Dinkar)! You are the very eye of the world, of the three qualities; upon you all fix their meditation.
സാരഥീ അരുണ ഹൈം പ്രഭു തുമ ശ്വേത കമലധാരീ । തുമ ചാര ഭുജാധാരീ ॥
Sarathi aruna haim prabhu tuma shveta kamaladhari Tuma chara bhujadhari
അർഥം:Your charioteer is Aruna, O Lord; bearing the white lotus, you of the four arms.
അശ്വ ഹൈം സാത തുമ്ഹാരേ കോടി കിരണ പസാരേ । തുമ ഹോ ദേവ മഹാന ॥
Ashva haim sata tumhare koti kirana pasare Tuma ho deva mahana
അർഥം:Seven are your horses, spreading a billion rays; you are the great God.
ഊഷാകാല മേം ജബ തുമ ഉദയാചല ആതേ । സബ തബ ദര്ശന പാതേ ॥
Ushakala mem jaba tuma udayachala ate Saba taba darshana pate
അർഥം:When at dawn you rise over the eastern mountain, all then receive your darshan.
ഫൈലാതേ ഉജിയാരാ ജാഗതാ തബ ജഗ സാരാ । കരേ സബ തവ ഗുണഗാന ॥
Phailate ujiyara jagata taba jaga sara Kare saba tava gunagana
അർഥം:You spread the light and the whole world awakens; then all sing your praise.
സന്ധ്യാ മേം ഭുവനേശ്വര അസ്താചല ജാതേ । ഗോധന തബ ഘര ആതേ ॥
Sandhya mem bhuvaneshvara astachala jate Godhana taba ghara ate
അർഥം:At dusk, O Lord of beings, you set behind the western mountain; the cattle then return home.
ഗോധൂലി ബേലാ മേം ഹര ഘര ഹര ആംഗന മേം । ഹോ തവ മഹിമാ ഗാന ॥
Godhuli bela mem hara ghara hara angana mem Ho tava mahima gana
അർഥം:In the twilight hour, in every home and every courtyard, your glory is sung.
ദേവ ദനുജ നര നാരീ ഋഷി മുനിവര ഭജതേ । ആദിത്യ ഹൃദയ ജപതേ ॥
Deva danuja nara nari rishi munivara bhajate Aditya hridaya japate
അർഥം:Gods, demons, men and women, sages and great seers worship you and recite the Aditya Hridaya.
സ്തോത്ര യേ മംഗലകാരീ ഇസകീ ഹൈ രചനാ ന്യാരീ । ദേ നവ ജീവനദാന ॥
Stotra ye mamgalakari isaki hai rachana nyari De nava jivanadana
അർഥം:This auspicious hymn, of wondrous composition, bestows new life.
തുമ ഹോ ത്രികാല രചയിതാ തുമ ജഗ കേ ആധാര । മഹിമാ തവ അപരമ്പാര ॥
Tuma ho trikala rachayita tuma jaga ke adhara Mahima tava aparampara
അർഥം:You are the maker of the three times, the support of the world; boundless is your glory.
പ്രാണോം കാ സിംചന കരകേ ഭക്തോം കോ അപനേ ദേതേ । ബല ബുദ്ധി ഔര ജ്ഞാന ॥
Pranom ka simchana karake bhaktom ko apane dete Bala buddhi aura jnana
അർഥം:Nourishing the life-breath of all, you grant to your devotees strength, intellect and knowledge.
ഭൂചര ജലചര ഖേചര സബ കേ ഹോ പ്രാണ തുമ്ഹീം । സബ ജീവോം കേ പ്രാണ തുമ്ഹീം ॥
Bhuchara jalachara khechara saba ke ho prana tumhim Saba jivom ke prana tumhim
അർഥം:Creatures of earth, water and sky — you are the life-breath of all; you are the life of every being.
വേദ പുരാണ ബഖാനേ ധര്മ സഭീ തുമ്ഹേം മാനേ । തുമ ഹീ സര്വശക്തിമാന ॥
Veda purana bakhane dharma sabhi tumhem mane Tuma hi sarvashaktimana
അർഥം:The Vedas and Puranas extol you, all faiths acknowledge you; you alone are the all-powerful.
ഋതുഏം തുമ്ഹാരീ ദാസീ തുമ ശാശ്വത അവിനാശീ । ശുഭകാരീ അംശുമാന ॥
Rituem tumhari dasi tuma shashvata avinashi Shubhakari amshumana
അർഥം:The seasons are your handmaidens; you are eternal and imperishable — auspicious Anshuman (the rayed one).
Surya Dev Aarti പാരായണ ഫലങ്ങൾ
Sung to Surya Dev (the Sun God), the visible deity, source of life, light, health and vitality.
Chanted for health, energy, eyesight, vigour, success and self-confidence, and to strengthen a weak Sun in the horoscope.
Most powerful at sunrise, on Sunday (Ravivar), Makar Sankranti, Ratha Saptami and during Chhath Puja, ideally after offering Arghya (water) to the Sun.
Surya Dev Aarti പാരായണ വിധി
Light a lamp (ghee or camphor) and, holding it, perform the aarti by circling it before the deity while singing, ideally with a bell. Offer flowers and prasad, and conclude by taking the aarti blessing (passing the hands over the flame and to the eyes). Sing with devotion and a steady heart.
