The Hanuman Aarti is a beloved folk hymn that has been sung in Hindu homes and temples for centuries. It narrates key episodes from the Ramayana — Hanuman burning Lanka, bringing the Sanjeevani herb, killing Ahiravan in the underworld — making it both a prayer and a storytelling tradition. The final verse, promising Vaikuntha (heaven) to anyone who sings it, has made it one of the most popular aartis in North India.

The aarti references Hanuman's descent into Paataal (the underworld) to rescue Ram and Lakshman from the demon Ahiravan. Despite being in the realm of death itself, Hanuman's devotion was so powerful that he tore Ahiravan apart and brought Ram and Lakshman back to the living world — a miracle that demonstrates that no force, not even death, can stand against pure devotion.

ਅਰਥ:Perform the aarti of dear Hanuman, who is the art of Lord Raghunath in crushing the wicked.
ਜਾਕੇ ਬਲ ਸੇ ਗਿਰਿਵਰ ਕਾਂਪੇ। ਰੋਗ ਦੋष ਜਾਕੇ ਨਿਕਟ ਨ ਝਾਂਕੇ॥
Jake Bal Se Girivar Kampe Rog Dosh Jake Nikat Na Jhanke
ਅਰਥ:By whose strength great mountains tremble. Diseases and defects dare not come near him.
ਅਂਜਨਿ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਮਹਾ ਬਲਦਾਈ। ਸਂਤਨ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ॥
Anjani Putra Maha Baldaai Santan Ke Prabhu Sada Sahaai
ਅਰਥ:Son of Anjani, great bestower of strength. Always the helper of saints and devotees.
ਦੇ ਬੀਰਾ ਰਘੁਨਾਥ ਪਠਾਏ। ਲਂਕਾ ਜਾਰਿ ਸਿਯਾ ਸੁਧਿ ਲਾਏ॥
De Bira Raghunath Pathaaye Lanka Jaari Siya Sudhi Laaye
ਅਰਥ:The brave one, sent by Lord Raghunath, burned Lanka and brought news of Sita.
ਲਂਕਾ ਸੋ ਕੋਟ ਸਮੁਦ੍ਰ ਸੀ ਖਾਈ। ਜਾਤ ਪਵਨਸੁਤ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਲਾਈ॥
Lanka So Kot Samudra Si Khaai Jaat Pavansut Baar Na Laai
ਅਰਥ:Lanka's fort with an ocean-like moat — the son of Wind crossed it in an instant.
ਲਂਕਾ ਜਾਰਿ ਅਸੁਰ ਸਂਹਾਰੇ। ਸਿਯਾਰਾਮਜੀ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਸਂਵਾਰੇ॥
Lanka Jaari Asur Sanhaare SiyaRamji Ke Kaaj Sanvaare
ਅਰਥ:He burned Lanka and destroyed the demons. He accomplished all the tasks of Sita and Ram.
ਲਕ੍ष੍ਮਣ ਮੂਰ੍ਛਿਤ ਪਡ़ੇ ਸਕਾਰੇ। ਆਣਿ ਸਂਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਉਬਾਰੇ॥
Lakshman Murchhit Pade Sakaare Aani Sanjeevan Praan Ubaare
ਅਰਥ:When Lakshman lay unconscious at dawn, he brought the Sanjeevani herb and saved his life.
ਪੈਠੀ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਤੋਰਿ ਜਮ ਕਾਰੇ। ਅਹਿਰਾਵਣ ਕੀ ਭੁਜਾ ਉਖਾਰੇ॥
Paithi Paataal Tori Jam Kaare Ahiravan Ki Bhuja Ukhaare
ਅਰਥ:He entered the underworld and broke the chains of death. He tore off Ahiravan's arms.
ਬਾਏਂ ਭੁਜਾ ਅਸੁਰ ਦਲ ਮਾਰੇ। ਦਾਹਿਨੇ ਭੁਜਾ ਸਂਤਜਨ ਤਾਰੇ॥
Baayein Bhuja Asur Dal Maare Daahinein Bhuja Santjan Taare
ਅਰਥ:With the left arm he slays armies of demons. With the right arm he saves the saints.
ਸੁਰ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਆਰਤੀ ਉਤਾਰੇਂ। ਜਯ ਜਯ ਜਯ ਹਨੁਮਾਨ ਉਚਾਰੇਂ॥
Sur Nar Muni Jan Aarti Utaarein Jai Jai Jai Hanuman Uchaarein
ਅਰਥ:Gods, humans and sages perform his aarti. All chant: Victory, Victory, Victory to Hanuman!
ਕਂਚਨ ਥਾਰ ਕਪੂਰ ਲੌ ਛਾਈ। ਆਰਤੀ ਕਰਤ ਅਂਜਨਾ ਮਾਈ॥
Kanchan Thaar Kapur Lau Chhaai Aarti Karat Anjana Maai
ਅਰਥ:On a golden plate, the glow of camphor spreads. Mother Anjana performs the aarti.
ਜੋ ਹਨੁਮਾਨਜੀ ਕੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਗਾਵੇ। ਬਸਿ ਬੈਕੁਂਠ ਪਰਮ ਪਦ ਪਾਵੇ॥

ਅਰਥ:Whoever sings this aarti of Hanuman-ji shall reside in Vaikuntha and attain the supreme state.

हनुमान आरती ਪਾਠ ਵਿਧੀ
Light a diya (oil lamp) or camphor on a golden or steel plate. Stand or sit before a Hanuman idol or image. Sing the aarti while gently waving the lit plate in a clockwise circular motion before the deity. Ring a bell with the other hand. At the end, share the aarti flame with all present — each person waving their hands over the flame and touching their forehead.
