The Devi Mahatmya (Durga Saptashati or Chandi), part of the Markandeya Purana, recounts the Divine Mother's victories over the demons. In Chapter 12, after the Narayani Stuti, the Goddess speaks the phalashruti — the declaration of the blessings of her worship. Here she singles out the 'sharatkale mahapuja,' the great annual autumn Navaratri, promising that those who hear her Mahatmya then will be freed from every calamity and blessed with abundance. She further describes its power in rites of peace and amid bad dreams, planetary afflictions, child-seizing spirits, broken friendships and malign beings — declaring her glory to be a refuge in every trouble.

ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਪੰਗਤੀ ਜਾਂ ▶ ਬਟਨ ਨੂੰ ਛੂਹ ਕੇ ਸੁਣੋ
ਸ਼ਰਤ੍ਕਾਲੇ ਮਹਾਪੂਜਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਯਤੇ ਯਾ ਚ ਵਾਰ੍ਸ਼ਿਕੀ । ਤਸ੍ਯਾਂ ਮਮੈਤਨ੍ਮਾਹਾਤ੍ਮ੍ਯਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੁਤ੍ਵਾ ਭਕ੍ਤਿਸਮਨ੍ਵਿਤਃ ॥
śaratkāle mahāpūjā kriyate yā ca vārṣikī tasyāṃ mamaitanmāhātmyaṃ śrutvā bhaktisamanvitaḥ
ਅਰਥ:जो भक्ति से युक्त होकर शरत्काल में की जाने वाली वार्षिक महापूजा में मेरे इस माहात्म्य को सुन लेता है — वह मनुष्य मेरी कृपा से समस्त बाधाओं से मुक्त और धन-धान्य से सम्पन्न हो जाएगा; इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं।
ਸਰ੍ਵਾਬਾਧਾਵਿਨਿਰ੍ਮੁਕ੍ਤੋ ਧਨਧਾਨ੍ਯਸਮਨ੍ਵਿਤਃ । ਮਨੁਸ਼੍ਯੋ ਮਤ੍ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੇਨ ਭਵਿਸ਼੍ਯਤਿ ਨ ਸਂਸ਼ਯਃ ॥
sarvābādhāvinirmukto dhanadhānyasamanvitaḥ manuṣyo matprasādena bhaviṣyati na saṃśayaḥ
ਅਰਥ:मेरे इस माहात्म्य को, तथा मेरी शुभ उत्पत्तियों और युद्धों में पराक्रम को सुनकर मनुष्य निर्भय हो जाता है। उसके शत्रु नष्ट हो जाते हैं, कल्याण की प्राप्ति होती है, और मेरे माहात्म्य को सुनने वालों का कुल आनन्दित होता है।
ਸ਼੍ਰੁਤ੍ਵਾ ਮਮੈਤਨ੍ਮਾਹਾਤ੍ਮ੍ਯਂ ਤਥਾ ਚੋਤ੍ਪਤ੍ਤਯਃ ਸ਼ੁਭਾਃ । ਪਰਾਕ੍ਰਮਂ ਚ ਯੁਦ੍ਧੇਸ਼ੁ ਜਾਯਤੇ ਨਿਰ੍ਭਯਃ ਪੁਮਾਨ੍ ॥
śrutvā mamaitanmāhātmyaṃ tathā cotpattayaḥ śubhāḥ parākramaṃ ca yuddheṣu jāyate nirbhayaḥ pumān
ਅਰਥ:सर्वत्र — शान्ति-कर्म में, दुःस्वप्न-दर्शन में, और उग्र ग्रह-पीड़ाओं में — मनुष्य को मेरा माहात्म्य सुनना चाहिए। उपसर्ग शान्त हो जाते हैं, और दारुण ग्रह-पीड़ाएँ भी; और मनुष्यों द्वारा देखा गया दुःस्वप्न सुस्वप्न में बदल जाता है।
ਰਿਪਵਃ ਸਙ੍ਕ੍ਸ਼ਯਂ ਯਾਨ੍ਤਿ ਕਲ੍ਯਾਣਂ ਚੋਪਪਦ੍ਯਤੇ । ਨਨ੍ਦਤੇ ਚ ਕੁਲਂ ਪੁਂਸਾਂ ਮਾਹਾਤ੍ਮ੍ਯਂ ਮਮ ਸ਼੍ਰਿਣ੍ਵਤਾਮ੍ ॥
ripavaḥ saṅkṣayaṃ yānti kalyāṇaṃ copapadyate nandate ca kulaṃ puṃsāṃ māhātmyaṃ mama śṛṇvatām
ਅਰਥ:यह बालग्रहों से पीड़ित बच्चों को शान्ति देने वाला है; और मनुष्यों में फूट पड़ने पर मैत्री कराने का उत्तम साधन है। यह समस्त दुराचारियों के बल को घटाने वाला परम साधन है; इसके पाठ मात्र से राक्षसों, भूतों और पिशाचों का नाश हो जाता है।
ਸ਼ਾਨ੍ਤਿਕਰ੍ਮਣਿ ਸਰ੍ਵਤ੍ਰ ਤਥਾ ਦੁਃਸ੍ਵਪ੍ਨਦਰ੍ਸ਼ਨੇ । ਗ੍ਰਹਪੀਡਾਸੁ ਚੋਗ੍ਰਾਸੁ ਮਾਹਾਤ੍ਮ੍ਯਂ ਸ਼੍ਰਿਣੁਯਾਨ੍ਮਮ ॥
śāntikarmaṇi sarvatra tathā duḥsvapnadarśane grahapīḍāsu cogrāsu māhātmyaṃ śṛṇuyānmama
ਉਪਸਰ੍ਗਾਃ ਸ਼ਮਂ ਯਾਨ੍ਤਿ ਗ੍ਰਹਪੀਡਾਸ਼੍ਚ ਦਾਰੁਣਾਃ । ਦੁਃਸ੍ਵਪ੍ਨਂ ਚ ਨ੍ਰਿਭਿਰ੍ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼੍ਟਂ ਸੁਸ੍ਵਪ੍ਨਮੁਪਜਾਯਤੇ ॥
upasargāḥ śamaṃ yānti grahapīḍāśca dāruṇāḥ duḥsvapnaṃ ca nṛbhirdṛṣṭaṃ susvapnamupajāyate
ਬਾਲਗ੍ਰਹਾਭਿਭੂਤਾਨਾਂ ਬਾਲਾਨਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਨ੍ਤਿਕਾਰਕਮ੍ । ਸਙ੍ਘਾਤਭੇਦੇ ਚ ਨ੍ਰਿਣਾਂ ਮੈਤ੍ਰੀਕਰਣਮੁਤ੍ਤਮਮ੍ ॥
bālagrahābhibhūtānāṃ bālānāṃ śāntikārakam saṅghātabhede ca nṛṇāṃ maitrīkaraṇamuttamam
