The Gayatri Mantra is the most revered verse of the Vedas, addressed to Savitr (the Sun) as the source of all light and wisdom; its Goddess, Maa Gayatri, is honoured as Vedmata, the mother of the Vedas. This Chalisa praises her twenty-four sacred syllables, her form seated on a swan, and her power as Saraswati, Lakshmi and Kali in one, the divine light that awakens the intellect and burns away ignorance.
✦ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿದಂತೆ
It is held that the twenty-four syllables of the Gayatri kindle the light of the intellect and burn away the sins of many births; the sages declare that of all the mantras in the world none equals the Gayatri, and that whoever takes her refuge crosses beyond every calamity.

ಅರ್ಥ:Hrim, Shrim, Klim — O radiance of intellect and light, fierce flame of life! Peace, splendour, awakening and progress, creative and unbroken Power.
ಜಗತ ಜನನೀ ಮಂಗಲ ಕರನಿ ಗಾಯತ್ರೀ ಸುಖಧಾಮ । ಪ್ರಣವೋಂ ಸಾವಿತ್ರೀ ಸ್ವಧಾ ಸ್ವಾಹಾ ಪೂರನ ಕಾಮ ॥

ಅರ್ಥ:Mother of the world, doer of all good, Gayatri, abode of joy; I bow to Savitri, Svadha and Svaha, fulfiller of every desire.
ಭೂರ್ಭುವಃ ಸ್ವಃ ಓಂ ಯುತ ಜನನೀ । ಗಾಯತ್ರೀ ನಿತ ಕಲಿಮಲ ದಹನೀ ॥
Bhurbhuvah svah Om yuta janani Gayatri nita kalimala dahani
ಅರ್ಥ:O Mother joined with Bhur, Bhuvah, Svah and Om; Gayatri, who daily burns away the impurities of the dark age.
ಅಕ್ಷರ ಚೌಬೀಸ ಪರಮ ಪುನೀತಾ । ಇನಮೇಂ ಬಸೇಂ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಶ್ರುತಿ ಗೀತಾ ॥
Akshara chaubisa parama punita Inamem basem shastra shruti gita
ಅರ್ಥ:Your twenty-four syllables are supremely holy; within them dwell the scriptures, the Vedas and the Gita.
ಶಾಶ್ವತ ಸತೋಗುಣೀ ಸತ ರೂಪಾ । ಸತ್ಯ ಸನಾತನ ಸುಧಾ ಅನೂಪಾ ॥
Shashvata satoguni sata rupa Satya sanatana sudha anupa
ಅರ್ಥ:Eternal, of the quality of purity (sattva), your very form is Truth; true, everlasting, peerless nectar.
ಹಂಸಾರೂಢ ಶ್ವೇತಾಂಬರ ಧಾರೀ । ಸ್ವರ್ಣ ಕಾಂತಿ ಶುಚಿ ಗಗನ-ಬಿಹಾರೀ ॥
Hamsarudha shvetambara dhari Svarna kamti shuchi gagana-bihari
ಅರ್ಥ:Mounted upon a swan, clad in white, with the lustre of gold, pure, roaming the open sky.
ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಪುಷ್ಪ ಕಮಂಡಲು ಮಾಲಾ । ಶುಭ್ರ ವರ್ಣ ತನು ನಯನ ವಿಶಾಲಾ ॥
Pustaka pushpa kamamdalu mala Shubhra varna tanu nayana vishala
ಅರ್ಥ:Bearing book, flower, water-pot and rosary; of bright hue, with a radiant body and large eyes.
ಧ್ಯಾನ ಧರತ ಪುಲಕಿತ ಹಿತ ಹೋಈ । ಸುಖ ಉಪಜತ ದುಖ ದುರ್ಮತಿ ಖೋಈ ॥
Dhyana dharata pulakita hita hoi Sukha upajata dukha durmati khoi
ಅರ್ಥ:Meditating upon you, the heart thrills with joy; happiness wells up, and sorrow and ill-will are lost.
ಕಾಮಧೇನು ತುಮ ಸುರ ತರು ಛಾಯಾ । ನಿರಾಕಾರ ಕೀ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಮಾಯಾ ॥
Kamadhenu tuma sura taru chhaya Nirakara ki adbhuta maya
ಅರ್ಥ:You are the wish-granting cow (Kamadhenu), the shade of the celestial wish-tree; the wondrous Maya of the Formless One.
ತುಮ್ಹರೀ ಶರಣ ಗಹೈ ಜೋ ಕೋಈ । ತರೈ ಸಕಲ ಸಂಕಟ ಸೋಂ ಸೋಈ ॥
Tumhari sharana gahai jo koi Tarai sakala samkata som soi
ಅರ್ಥ:Whoever takes refuge in you crosses safely beyond every calamity.
ಸರಸ್ವತೀ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ತುಮ ಕಾಲೀ । ದಿಪೈ ತುಮ್ಹಾರೀ ಜ್ಯೋತಿ ನಿರಾಲೀ ॥
Sarasvati lakshmi tuma kali Dipai tumhari jyoti nirali
ಅರ್ಥ:You are Saraswati, Lakshmi and Kali; your matchless light shines forth.
ತುಮ್ಹರೀ ಮಹಿಮಾ ಪಾರ ನ ಪಾವೈಂ । ಜೋ ಶಾರದ ಶತ ಮುಖ ಗುನ ಗಾವೈಂ ॥
Tumhari mahima para na pavaim Jo sharada shata mukha guna gavaim
ಅರ್ಥ:None can reach the end of your glory, though Sharada with a hundred mouths were to sing your virtues.
ಚಾರ ವೇದ ಕೀ ಮಾತ ಪುನೀತಾ । ತುಮ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಣೀ ಗೌರೀ ಸೀತಾ ॥
Chara veda ki mata punita Tuma brahmani gauri sita
ಅರ್ಥ:Holy mother of the four Vedas; you are Brahmani, Gauri and Sita.
ಮಹಾಮಂತ್ರ ಜಿತನೇ ಜಗ ಮಾಹೀಂ । ಕೋಉ ಗಾಯತ್ರೀ ಸಮ ನಾಹೀಂ ॥
Mahamamtra jitane jaga mahim Kou gayatri sama nahim
ಅರ್ಥ:Of all the great mantras in the world, none is the equal of the Gayatri.
ಸುಮಿರತ ಹಿಯ ಮೇಂ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಪ್ರಕಾಸೈ । ಆಲಸ ಪಾಪ ಅವಿದ್ಯಾ ನಾಸೈ ॥
Sumirata hiya mem jnana prakasai Alasa papa avidya nasai
ಅರ್ಥ:Remembering you, knowledge dawns within the heart; sloth, sin and ignorance are destroyed.
ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ ಬೀಜ ಜಗ ಜನನಿ ಭವಾನೀ । ಕಾಲರಾತ್ರಿ ವರದಾ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣೀ ॥
Srishti bija jaga janani bhavani Kalaratri varada kalyani
ಅರ್ಥ:Seed of creation, Mother of the world, Bhavani; Kalaratri, boon-giver, the auspicious one.
ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾ ವಿಷ್ಣು ರುದ್ರ ಸುರ ಜೇತೇ । ತುಮ ಸೋಂ ಪಾವೇಂ ಸುರತಾ ತೇತೇ ॥
Brahma vishnu rudra sura jete Tuma som pavem surata tete
ಅರ್ಥ:Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra and all the gods, from you they receive their divine power.
ತುಮ ಭಕ್ತನ ಕೀ ಭಕ್ತ ತುಮ್ಹಾರೇ । ಜನನಿಹಿಂ ಪುತ್ರ ಪ್ರಾಣ ತೇ ಪ್ಯಾರೇ ॥
Tuma bhaktana ki bhakta tumhare Jananihim putra prana te pyare
ಅರ್ಥ:You belong to your devotees and they to you, dear to you as a son to his mother, dearer than life itself.
ಮಹಿಮಾ ಅಪರಮ್ಪಾರ ತುಮ್ಹಾರೀ । ಜಯ ಜಯ ಜಯ ತ್ರಿಪದಾ ಭಯಹಾರೀ ॥
Mahima aparampara tumhari Jaya jaya jaya tripada bhayahari
ಅರ್ಥ:Boundless is your glory; victory, victory, victory to you, three-versed Tripada, remover of all fear.
ಪೂರಿತ ಸಕಲ ಜ್ಞಾನ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಾ । ತುಮ ಸಮ ಅಧಿಕ ನ ಜಗಮೇಂ ಆನಾ ॥
Purita sakala jnana vijnana Tuma sama adhika na jagamem ana
ಅರ್ಥ:Full of all knowledge and wisdom; none greater than you has ever come into the world.
ತುಮಹಿಂ ಜಾನಿ ಕಛು ರಹೈ ನ ಶೇಷಾ । ತುಮಹಿಂ ಪಾಯ ಕಛು ರಹೈ ನ ಕ್ಲೇಸಾ ॥
Tumahim jani kachhu rahai na shesha Tumahim paya kachhu rahai na klesa
ಅರ್ಥ:Knowing you, nothing remains unknown; attaining you, no affliction remains.
ಜಾನತ ತುಮಹಿಂ ತುಮಹಿಂ ವ್ಹೈ ಜಾಈ । ಪಾರಸ ಪರಸಿ ಕುಧಾತು ಸುಹಾಈ ॥
Janata tumahim tumahim vhai jai Parasa parasi kudhatu suhai
ಅರ್ಥ:Knowing you, one becomes you, as base metal is turned to beauty at the touch of the philosopher's stone.
ತುಮ್ಹರೀ ಶಕ್ತಿ ದಿಪೈ ಸಬ ಠಾಈ । ಮಾತಾ ತುಮ ಸಬ ಠೌರ ಸಮಾಈ ॥
Tumhari shakti dipai saba thai Mata tuma saba thaura samai
ಅರ್ಥ:Your power shines in every place; O Mother, you pervade all places.
ಗ್ರಹ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಂಡ ಘನೇರೇ । ಸಬ ಗತಿವಾನ ತುಮ್ಹಾರೇ ಪ್ರೇರೇ ॥
Graha nakshatra brahmamda ghanere Saba gativana tumhare prere
ಅರ್ಥ:The countless planets, stars and universes all move, impelled by you.
ಸಕಲ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ ಕೀ ಪ್ರಾಣ ವಿಧಾತಾ । ಪಾಲಕ ಪೋಷಕ ನಾಶಕ ತ್ರಾತಾ ॥
Sakala srishti ki prana vidhata Palaka poshaka nashaka trata
ಅರ್ಥ:Life-giver and ordainer of all creation; protector, nourisher, destroyer and saviour.
ಮಾತೇಶ್ವರೀ ದಯಾ ವ್ರತ ಧಾರೀ । ತುಮ ಸನ ತರೇ ಪಾತಕೀ ಭಾರೀ ॥
Mateshvari daya vrata dhari Tuma sana tare pataki bhari
ಅರ್ಥ:Mother-goddess, holding the vow of compassion; by you even the gravest sinners are saved.
ಜಾಪರ ಕೃಪಾ ತುಮ್ಹಾರೀ ಹೋಈ । ತಾಪರ ಕೃಪಾ ಕರೇಂ ಸಬ ಕೋಈ ॥
Japara kripa tumhari hoi Tapara kripa karem saba koi
ಅರ್ಥ:On whomever your grace falls, upon him every other being shows grace.
ಮಂದ ಬುದ್ಧಿ ತೇ ಬುಧಿ ಬಲ ಪಾವೇಂ । ರೋಗೀ ರೋಗ ರಹಿತ ಹೋ ಜಾವೇಂ ॥
Mamda buddhi te budhi bala pavem Rogi roga rahita ho javem
ಅರ್ಥ:The dull-witted gain the strength of intellect; the sick become free of their disease.
ದರಿದ್ರ ಮಿಟೈ ಕಟೈ ಸಬ ಪೀರಾ । ನಾಶೈ ದುಖ ಹರೈ ಭವ ಭೀರಾ ॥
Daridra mitai katai saba pira Nashai dukha harai bhava bhira
ಅರ್ಥ:Poverty is erased and all pain cut away; sorrow is destroyed and the fear of worldly existence removed.
ಗೃಹ ಕ್ಲೇಶ ಚಿತ ಚಿಂತಾ ಭಾರೀ । ನಾಸೈ ಗಾಯತ್ರೀ ಭಯ ಹಾರೀ ॥
Griha klesha chita chimta bhari Nasai gayatri bhaya hari
ಅರ್ಥ:Household strife and the heavy anxiety of the mind, Gayatri, remover of fear, destroys them all.
ಸಂತತಿ ಹೀನ ಸುಸಂತತಿ ಪಾವೇಂ । ಸುಖ ಸಂಪತಿ ಯುತ ಮೋದ ಮನಾವೇಂ ॥
Samtati hina susamtati pavem Sukha sampati yuta moda manavem
ಅರ್ಥ:The childless gain good offspring, and rejoice, blessed with happiness and wealth.
ಭೂತ ಪಿಶಾಚ ಸಬೈ ಭಯ ಖಾವೇಂ । ಯಮ ಕೇ ದೂತ ನಿಕಟ ನಹಿಂ ಆವೇಂ ॥
Bhuta pishacha sabai bhaya khavem Yama ke duta nikata nahim avem
ಅರ್ಥ:Ghosts and goblins are all consumed by fear; the messengers of Yama come not near.
ಜೋ ಸಧವಾ ಸುಮಿರೇಂ ಚಿತ ಲಾಈ । ಅಛತ ಸುಹಾಗ ಸದಾ ಸುಖದಾಈ ॥
Jo sadhava sumirem chita lai Achhata suhaga sada sukhadai
ಅರ್ಥ:The married woman who remembers you with a focused heart keeps her wifehood unbroken, ever a source of joy.
ಘರ ವರ ಸುಖ ಪ್ರದ ಲಹೈಂ ಕುಮಾರೀ । ವಿಧವಾ ರಹೇಂ ಸತ್ಯ ವ್ರತ ಧಾರೀ ॥
Ghara vara sukha prada lahaim kumari Vidhava rahem satya vrata dhari
ಅರ್ಥ:The maiden gains a home and a good, joy-giving husband; the widow abides, holding fast to the vow of truth.
ಜಯತಿ ಜಯತಿ ಜಗದಂಬ ಭವಾನೀ । ತುಮ ಸಮ ಓರ ದಯಾಲು ನ ದಾನೀ ॥
Jayati jayati jagadamba bhavani Tuma sama ora dayalu na dani
ಅರ್ಥ:Victory, victory, O Jagadamba Bhavani; there is none so merciful or so giving as you.
ಜೋ ಸತಗುರು ಸೋ ದೀಕ್ಷಾ ಪಾವೇ । ಸೋ ಸಾಧನ ಕೋ ಸಫಲ ಬನಾವೇ ॥
Jo sataguru so diksha pave So sadhana ko saphala banave
ಅರ್ಥ:Whoever receives initiation from a true guru makes his spiritual practice bear fruit.
ಸುಮಿರನ ಕರೇ ಸುರೂಚಿ ಬಡಭಾಗೀ । ಲಹೈ ಮನೋರಥ ಗೃಹೀ ವಿರಾಗೀ ॥
Sumirana kare suruchi badabhagi Lahai manoratha grihi viragi
ಅರ್ಥ:The fortunate one who remembers you with pure love attains his heart's desire, be he householder or renunciate.
ಅಷ್ಟ ಸಿದ್ಧಿ ನವನಿಧಿ ಕೀ ದಾತಾ । ಸಬ ಸಮರ್ಥ ಗಾಯತ್ರೀ ಮಾತಾ ॥
Ashta siddhi navanidhi ki data Saba samartha gayatri mata
ಅರ್ಥ:Giver of the eight siddhis and the nine treasures; all-capable is Mother Gayatri.
ಋಷಿ ಮುನಿ ಯತೀ ತಪಸ್ವೀ ಯೋಗೀ । ಆರತ ಅರ್ಥೀ ಚಿಂತಿತ ಭೋಗೀ ॥
Rishi muni yati tapasvi yogi Arata arthi chimtita bhogi
ಅರ್ಥ:Sages, seers, ascetics, the penitent and yogis; the afflicted, the supplicant, the worried and the pleasure-seeker —
ಜೋ ಜೋ ಶರಣ ತುಮ್ಹಾರೀ ಆವೇಂ । ಸೋ ಸೋ ಮನ ವಾಂಛಿತ ಫಲ ಪಾವೇಂ ॥
Jo jo sharana tumhari avem So so mana vamchhita phala pavem
ಅರ್ಥ:Whoever comes to your refuge, each and every one gains the fruit his heart desires.
ಬಲ ಬುಧಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾ ಶೀಲ ಸ್ವಭಾಉ । ಧನ ವೈಭವ ಯಶ ತೇಜ ಉಛಾಉ ॥
Bala budhi vidya shila svabhau Dhana vaibhava yasha teja uchhau
ಅರ್ಥ:Strength, intellect, learning, good character and disposition; wealth, splendour, fame, radiance and high spirits —
ಸಕಲ ಬಢೇಂ ಉಪಜೇಂ ಸುಖ ನಾನಾ । ಜೇ ಯಹ ಪಾಠ ಕರೈ ಧರಿ ಧ್ಯಾನಾ ॥
Sakala badhem upajem sukha nana Je yaha patha karai dhari dhyana
ಅರ್ಥ:All these increase, and manifold joys arise, for whoever recites this with meditative attention.
ಯಹ ಚಾಲೀಸಾ ಭಕ್ತಿ ಯುತ ಪಾಠ ಕರೈ ಜೋ ಕೋಈ । ತಾಪರ ಕೃಪಾ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನತಾ ಗಾಯತ್ರೀ ಕೀ ಹೋಯ ॥
Yaha chalisa bhakti yuta patha karai jo koi Tapara kripa prasannata gayatri ki hoya
ಅರ್ಥ:Whoever recites this Chalisa with devotion, upon him fall the grace and the good pleasure of Gayatri.

ಉಚ್ಚಾರಣೆ ಕೇಳಲು ಯಾವುದೇ ಪದವನ್ನು ಕ್ಲಿಕ್ ಮಾಡಿ

Recited to invoke Maa Gayatri, the Vedmata and Goddess of the supreme Gayatri Mantra, for wisdom, clarity of intellect and the light of knowledge.
Praises the Gayatri as the mother of the four Vedas and as Saraswati, Lakshmi and Kali in one, deepening devotion and understanding of the mantra.
Believed to burn away sin and ignorance, to remove fear, disease, poverty and household strife, and to grant the heart's desire to all who take refuge in her.
Especially recited at the three sandhyas (dawn, noon and dusk) alongside the Gayatri Mantra, and as a daily upasana by sadhaks.
Chanted with the Gayatri Mantra and the Surya/Aditya hymns to complete the worship of the solar Savitri.
Gayatri Chalisa ಪಾರಾಯಣ ವಿಧಿ
After bathing, sit facing east at dawn, light a lamp, and if possible keep an image of Maa Gayatri before you. Recite the Chalisa with devotion and, ideally, follow it with japa of the Gayatri Mantra on a rudraksha or tulsi mala. It is best done at the sandhya times and as a steady daily practice.
