Khatu Shyam Ji is Barbarika, the mighty grandson of Bhima, whose head — granted the boon to witness the entire Mahabharata war — was worshipped by Krishna. Pleased with his supreme sacrifice and devotion, Krishna granted that in the Kali Yuga he would be worshipped by Krishna's own name, Shyam, and would fulfil the wishes of his devotees. His shrine at Khatu (Sikar, Rajasthan) draws millions; this aarti is sung at the close of his worship.

Krishna blessed Barbarika that he would become the refuge of the helpless and the defeated — 'Haare ka Sahara' — worshipped as Shyam. Devotees who come to Khatu Dham and sing this aarti with faith report that even their most impossible wishes are fulfilled by Shyam Baba.

ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਪੰਗਤੀ ਜਾਂ ▶ ਬਟਨ ਨੂੰ ਛੂਹ ਕੇ ਸੁਣੋ
ੴ ਜਯ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸ਼੍ਯਾਮ ਹਰੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਜਯ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸ਼੍ਯਾਮ ਹਰੇ । ਖਾਟੂ ਧਾਮ ਵਿਰਾਜਤ ਅਨੁਪਮ ਰੂਪ ਧਰੇ ॥
Om jaya shri shyama hare baba jaya shri shyama hare Khatu dhama virajata anupama rupa dhare
ਅਰਥ:Om, victory to Shri Shyam; Baba, victory to Shri Shyam! At Khatu Dham you are enthroned, bearing a matchless form.
ਰਤਨ ਜਡ़ਿਤ ਸਿਂਹਾਸਨ ਸਿਰ ਪਰ ਚਂਵਰ ਢੁਰੇ । ਤਨ ਕੇਸਰਿਯਾ ਬਾਗੋ ਕੁਣ੍ਡਲ ਸ਼੍ਰਵਣ ਪਡ़ੇ ॥
Ratana jada़ita simhasana sira para chanvara dhure Tana kesariya bago kundala shravana pada़e
ਅਰਥ:On a jewel-studded throne, a fly-whisk waving above your head; clad in saffron robes, with rings adorning your ears.
ਗਲ ਪੁष੍ਪੋਂ ਕੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਸਿਰ ਪਰ ਮੁਕੁਟ ਧਰੇ । ਖੇਵਤ ਧੂਪ ਅਗ੍ਨਿ ਪਰ ਦੀਪਕ ਜ੍ਯੋਤਿ ਜਲੇ ॥
Gala pushpom ki mala sira para mukuta dhare Khevata dhupa agni para dipaka jyoti jale
ਅਰਥ:A garland of flowers around your neck and a crown upon your head; incense is waved over the fire and the lamp's flame burns bright.
ਮੋਦਕ ਖੀਰ ਚੂਰਮਾ ਸੁਵਰਣ ਥਾਲ ਭਰੇ । ਸੇਵਕ ਭੋਗ ਲਗਾਵਤ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਿਤ੍ਯ ਕਰੇ ॥
Modaka khira churama suvarana thala bhare Sevaka bhoga lagavata seva nitya kare
ਅਰਥ:Modak, kheer and choorma fill the golden platters; your servants offer the bhog and serve you each day.
ਝਾਂਝ ਕਟੋਰਾ ਔਰ ਘਡ़ਿਯਾਵਲ ਸ਼ਂਖ ਮृਦਂਗ ਘੁਰੇ । ਭਕ੍ਤ ਆਰਤੀ ਗਾਵੇ ਜਯਕਾਰ ਕਰੇ ॥
Jhamjha katora aura ghada़iyavala shamkha mridamga ghure Bhakta arati gave jayakara kare
ਅਰਥ:Cymbals, the katora, the gharial, conch and mridang resound; the devotees sing the aarti and raise cries of victory.
ਜੋ ਧ੍ਯਾਵੇ ਫਲ ਪਾਵੇ ਸਬ ਦੁਃਖ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ । ਸੇਵਕ ਜਨ ਨਿਜ ਮੁਖ ਸੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸ਼੍ਯਾਮ ਸ਼੍ਯਾਮ ਉਚਰੇ ॥
Jo dhyave phala pave saba duhkha se ubare Sevaka jana nija mukha se shri shyama shyama uchare
ਅਰਥ:Whoever meditates on you gains the fruit and is lifted out of every sorrow; the devotees utter 'Shri Shyam, Shyam' with their own lips.
ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸ਼੍ਯਾਮ ਬਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਨਰ ਗਾਵੇ । ਕਹਤ ਭਕ੍ਤ ਮਨਵਾਂਛਿਤ ਫਲ ਪਾਵੇ ॥
Shri shyama bihari ji ki arati jo koi nara gave Kahata bhakta manavamchhita phala pave
ਅਰਥ:Whoever sings this aarti of Shri Shyam Bihari — the devotee says — obtains the fruit his heart desires.

Sung to Khatu Shyam Ji (Barbarika, the grandson of Bhima, blessed by Krishna to be worshipped in the Kali Yuga by Krishna's own name 'Shyam').
Chanted for the fulfilment of wishes, removal of sorrows and the famous grace of the 'Haar ke Sahare' (support of the defeated/helpless).
Most powerful at Khatu Dham (Sikar, Rajasthan), on Falgun and on the eleventh lunar day (Ekadashi), Shyam Baba's special day.
Performed at the close of Shyam Baba's worship along with the Khatu Shyam Chalisa.
श्री खाटू श्याम आरती ਪਾਠ ਵਿਧੀ
Light a lamp (with ghee or camphor) and, holding it, perform the aarti by circling it before the deity while singing, ideally with a bell. Offer flowers and prasad, and conclude by taking the aarti's blessing (passing the hands over the flame and to the eyes). Sing with devotion and a clear heart.
