Sri Vaishnava devotional tradition (composed as a benedictory stotra in praise of Lord Rama) · Manavala Mamunigal (Vara Vara Muni / Ramya-Jamatri-Muni), 15th century Sri Vaishnava acharya · 15th century CE

Manavala Mamunigal, one of the most revered acharyas of the Sri Vaishnava Sampradaya, composed this Mangalasasanam as an outpouring of love for Lord Rama. In the spirit of the tradition — where the devotee, beholding the Lord's selfless deeds, fears for him and lovingly wishes him auspiciousness — each verse recounts a heroic episode of the Ramayana and crowns it with 'Mangalam'. The closing verses humbly name the composer and dedicate the benediction to the Lord of the three worlds.

શાસ્ત્રોમાં કહ્યા પ્રમાણે

Devotees hold that wherever this Mangalasasanam is sung with love at the end of Rama worship, inauspiciousness departs and the grace of Sita-Rama fills the home; it is regarded as the perfect 'sealing' prayer that completes and protects all preceding worship.

It is a 'mangalashasanam' — a benediction of sixteen verses that offers 'mangalam' (auspiciousness and blessings) to Lord Rama. Each verse celebrates a glorious moment from his life, from his birth to his coronation, and concludes with the word 'Mangalam'.
It was composed by the great Sri Vaishnava acharya Manavala Mamunigal, also revered as Vara Vara Muni and Ramya-Jamatri-Muni (Saumya-Jamatri-Muni), as the final two verses themselves state.
It is traditionally recited at the close of worship, bhajan sessions and Ramayana parayana to invoke blessings on the Lord and all present. It is especially sung on Sri Rama Navami and throughout the month of Chaitra.
Mangalashasanam means 'the offering of auspiciousness'. In the Sri Vaishnava tradition, the devotee out of overflowing love wishes well-being and auspiciousness to the Lord himself — a tender expression of bhakti.
