హనుమాన్ చాలీసా గోస్వామి తులసీదాస్ రచించిన నలభై చౌపాయీల స్తుతిగానం. ఇది హనుమంతుని జ్ఞాన, గుణాల సాగరంగా, పవనపుత్రుడైన వీరునిగా, శ్రీరాముని పరమ భక్త సేవకునిగా కీర్తిస్తుంది. దీని పారాయణం బలాన్ని, ధైర్యాన్ని, జ్ఞానాన్ని ప్రసాదిస్తుందని, భయాన్ని, దుష్టశక్తులను, దుఃఖాన్ని తొలగిస్తుందని, శ్రీరాముని అనుగ్రహాన్ని కలిగిస్తుందని నమ్ముతారు — భక్తునికి ఆయన నామస్మరణ మాత్రముననే ప్రతి సంకటమూ తొలగిపోతుంది.
మూలం & కథ

Tulsidas composed the Hanuman Chalisa while imprisoned by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in Fatehpur Sikri. According to tradition, Tulsidas was jailed for refusing to perform miracles. In prison, he composed these 40 verses in praise of Hanuman. Upon completing the recitation, legend says an army of monkeys descended upon the city causing havoc, forcing Aurangzeb to release Tulsidas. The chalisa is written in Awadhi (a Hindi dialect), making it accessible to common people rather than just Sanskrit scholars.

The Hanuman Chalisa itself declares in verse 38: 'Jo sat baar paath kar koi, chhutahi bandi maha sukh hoi' — whoever recites this 100 times shall be freed from bondage and attain supreme bliss. Lord Shiva himself is said to be the witness to this promise (verse 39). In the Ramayana, when Hanuman brought the Sanjeevani herb (referenced in verse 11), he lifted the entire Dronagiri mountain across hundreds of miles to save Lakshman's life — a feat that demonstrates the limitless power invoked through this chalisa.

అర్థం:Knowing my body to be devoid of intelligence, I remember the Son of Wind. Grant me strength, wisdom, and knowledge, and remove all afflictions and impurities.

అర్థం:Victory to Hanuman, ocean of wisdom and virtue. Victory to the lord of monkeys, illuminator of the three worlds.

అర్థం:Messenger of Ram, abode of immeasurable strength. Known as son of Anjani and son of the Wind.
మహాబీర బిక్రమ బజరంగీ। కుమతి నివార సుమతి కే సంగీ॥
Mahabir Bikram Bajrangi. Kumati Nivar Sumati Ke Sangi.
అర్థం:Great hero, mighty as a thunderbolt. Dispeller of evil thoughts, companion of good wisdom.
కంచన బరన బిరాజ సుబేసా। కానన కుండల కుంచిత కేసా॥
Kanchan Baran Biraj Subesa. Kanan Kundal Kunchit Kesa.
అర్థం:Golden-complexioned, beautifully adorned. With earrings and curly hair.
హాథ బజ్ర ఔ ధ్వజా బిరాజై। కాంధే మూంజ జనేఊ సాజై॥
Hath Bajra Au Dhwaja Birajai. Kandhe Moonj Janeu Sajai.
అర్థం:With mace and banner in hand. Sacred thread of munja grass on your shoulder.
సంకర సువన కేసరీనందన। తేజ ప్రతాప మహా జగ బందన॥
Shankar Suvan Kesarinandan. Tej Pratap Maha Jag Bandan.
అర్థం:Incarnation of Shiva, delight of Kesari. Your glory and might are revered throughout the world.
విద్యావాన గునీ అతి చాతుర। రామ కాజ కరిబే కో ఆతుర॥
Vidyavan Guni Ati Chatur. Ram Kaj Karibe Ko Aatur.
అర్థం:Learned, virtuous, and extremely clever. Always eager to carry out Ram's work.
ప్రభు చరిత్ర సునిబే కో రసియా। రామ లఖన సీతా మన బసియా॥
Prabhu Charitra Sunibe Ko Rasiya. Ram Lakhan Sita Man Basiya.
అర్థం:You delight in listening to the Lord's deeds. Ram, Lakshman, and Sita dwell in your heart.
సూక్ష్మ రూప ధరి సియహిం దిఖావా। బికట రూప ధరి లంక జరావా॥
Sukshma Roop Dhari Siyahi Dikhava. Bikat Roop Dhari Lanka Jarava.
అర్థం:Assuming a tiny form, you appeared before Sita. In a fierce form, you burned Lanka.
భీమ రూప ధరి అసుర సంహారే। రామచంద్ర కే కాజ సవాంరే॥
Bheem Roop Dhari Asur Sanhare. Ramachandra Ke Kaj Savare.
అర్థం:In a mighty form, you destroyed the demons. You accomplished all of Lord Ram's tasks.
లాయ సజీవన లఖన జియాయే। శ్రీరఘుబీర హరషి ఉర లాయే॥
Laay Sajeevan Lakhan Jiyaye. Shri Raghubir Harashi Ur Laye.
అర్థం:You brought the life-giving herb and revived Lakshman. Sri Raghubir embraced you with great joy.
రఘుపతి కీన్హీం బహుత బడ़ాఈ। తుమ మమ ప్రియ భరతహి సమ భాఈ॥
Raghupati Keenhi Bahut Badai. Tum Mam Priya Bharatahi Sam Bhai.
అర్థం:Raghupati praised you greatly, saying: You are dear to me as my brother Bharat.
సహస బదన తుమ్హరో జస గావైం। అస కహి శ్రీపతి కంఠ లగావైం॥
Sahas Badan Tumharo Jas Gavai. As Kahi Shripati Kanth Lagavai.
అర్థం:The thousand-headed Shesha sings your glory. So saying, Shripati embraced you.
సనకాదిక బ్రహ్మాది మునీసా। నారద సారద సహిత అహీసా॥
Sanakadik Brahmadi Muneesa. Narad Sarad Sahit Aheesa.
అర్థం:Sanak and the sages, Brahma and other gods, Narad, Sarada, and the king of serpents — all sing your praise.
జమ కుబేర దిగపాల జహాం తే। కబి కోబిద కహి సకేం కహాం తే॥
Jam Kuber Digpal Jahan Te. Kabi Kobid Kahi Sake Kahan Te.
అర్థం:Yama, Kubera, and the guardians of directions — poets and scholars cannot fully describe your glory.
తుమ ఉపకార సుగ్రీవహిం కీన్హా। రామ మిలాయ రాజ పద దీన్హా॥
Tum Upkar Sugrivahi Keenha. Ram Milay Raj Pad Deenha.
అర్థం:You helped Sugriva greatly. You united him with Ram and restored his kingdom.
తుమ్హరో మంత్ర విభీషన మానా। లంకేశ్వర భఏ సబ జగ జానా॥
Tumharo Mantra Vibheeshan Mana. Lankeshwar Bhaye Sab Jag Jana.
అర్థం:Vibhishana heeded your counsel. The whole world knows he became Lord of Lanka.
జుగ సహస్ర జోజన పర భానూ। లీల్యో తాహి మధుర ఫల జానూ॥
Jug Sahastra Jojan Par Bhanu. Leelyo Tahi Madhur Phal Janu.
అర్థం:The sun, thousands of leagues away — you swallowed it thinking it a sweet fruit.
ప్రభు ముద్రికా మేలి ముఖ మాహీం। జలధి లాంఘి గయే అచరజ నాహీం॥
Prabhu Mudrika Meli Mukh Mahi. Jaladhi Langhi Gaye Acharaj Nahi.
అర్థం:Carrying the Lord's ring in your mouth, you leaped across the ocean — no surprise at all.
దుర్గమ కాజ జగత కే జేతే। సుగమ అనుగ్రహ తుమ్హరే తేతే॥
Durgam Kaj Jagat Ke Jete. Sugam Anugrah Tumhare Tete.
అర్థం:Every difficult task in the world becomes easy with your grace.
రామ దుఆరే తుమ రఖవారే। హోత న ఆజ్ఞా బిను పైసారే॥
Ram Duare Tum Rakhware. Hot Na Aagya Binu Paisare.
అర్థం:You are the gatekeeper at Ram's door. None may enter without your permission.
సబ సుఖ లహైం తుమ్హారీ సరనా। తుమ రక్షక కాహూ కో డర నా॥
Sab Sukh Lahai Tumhari Sarna. Tum Rakshak Kahu Ko Dar Na.
అర్థం:All happiness comes to those who take your refuge. With you as protector, there is nothing to fear.
ఆపన తేజ సమ్హారో ఆపై। తీనోం లోక హాంక తేం కాంపై॥
Apan Tej Samharo Aapai. Teenon Lok Hank Te Kanpai.
అర్థం:You alone can withstand your own splendor. The three worlds tremble at your roar.
భూత పిశాచ నికట నహిం ఆవై। మహాబీర జబ నామ సునావై॥
Bhoot Pishach Nikat Nahi Aavai. Mahabir Jab Nam Sunavai.
అర్థం:Ghosts and evil spirits dare not come near when they hear the great hero Hanuman's name.
నాసై రోగ హరై సబ పీరా। జపత నిరంతర హనుమత బీరా॥

అర్థం:All diseases are destroyed and all pain removed by constantly chanting brave Hanuman's name.
సంకట తేం హనుమాన ఛుడావై। మన క్రమ బచన ధ్యాన జో లావై॥

అర్థం:Hanuman rescues from all crises those who meditate on him in thought, word, and deed.
సబ పర రామ తపస్వీ రాజా। తిన కే కాజ సకల తుమ సాజా॥
Sab Par Ram Tapasvi Raja. Tin Ke Kaj Sakal Tum Saja.
అర్థం:Ram is the supreme ascetic king. You accomplish all his tasks.
ఔర మనోరథ జో కోఈ లావై। సోఇ అమిత జీవన ఫల పావై॥
Aur Manorath Jo Koi Lavai. Soi Amit Jeevan Phal Pavai.
అర్థం:Whoever comes to you with any desire obtains the imperishable fruit of life.
చారోం జుగ పరతాప తుమ్హారా। హై పరసిద్ధ జగత ఉజియారా॥
Charon Jug Partap Tumhara. Hai Parsiddh Jagat Ujiyara.
అర్థం:Your glory prevails through all four ages. Your fame illuminates the entire world.
సాధు-సంత కే తుమ రఖవారే। అసుర నికందన రామ దులారే॥
Sadhu Sant Ke Tum Rakhware. Asur Nikandan Ram Dulare.
అర్థం:You are the protector of saints and sages. Destroyer of demons, beloved of Ram.
అష్ట సిద్ధి నౌ నిధి కే దాతా। అస బర దీన జానకీ మాతా॥
Ashta Siddhi Nau Nidhi Ke Data. As Bar Deen Janaki Mata.
అర్థం:You grant the eight supernatural powers and nine treasures. Mother Janaki has given you this boon.
రామ రసాయన తుమ్హరే పాసా। సదా రహో రఘుపతి కే దాసా॥
Ram Rasayan Tumhare Pasa. Sada Raho Raghupati Ke Dasa.
అర్థం:You possess the elixir of Ram's devotion. You remain forever the servant of Raghupati.
తుమ్హరే భజన రామ కో పావై। జనమ-జనమ కే దుఖ బిసరావై॥
Tumhare Bhajan Ram Ko Pavai. Janam Janam Ke Dukh Bisravai.
అర్థం:Through your worship, one attains Ram. The sorrows of countless lifetimes are erased.
అంత కాల రఘుబర పుర జాఈ। జహాం జన్మ హరి-భక్త కహాఈ॥
Ant Kaal Raghubar Pur Jai. Jahan Janma Hari Bhakt Kahai.
అర్థం:At the end of life, one goes to Ram's abode. And wherever one is born, is known as a devotee of Hari.
ఔర దేవతా చిత్త న ధరఈ। హనుమత సేఇ సర్బ సుఖ కరఈ॥
Aur Devata Chitt Na Dharai. Hanumat Sei Sarb Sukh Karai.
అర్థం:Without worshipping any other deity, Hanuman alone gives all happiness.
సంకట కటై మిటై సబ పీరా। జో సుమిరై హనుమత బలబీరా॥

For specific wishes, chant 7 or 11 times consecutively. For liberation, the text itself says chanting 100 times frees from all bondage. Regular daily recitation brings protection, courage and divine grace.
