Meaningसचमुच तुम्हारे बोल सोना हो गए — पुकारने पर भी क्यों नहीं बोलते? स्वप्न में भी मैं तुम्हारा नाम-स्मरण नहीं भूलता, मेरे भले पिता।

ऎन्त वेडिनगानि सुन्तैन दयरादु पन्तमु सेय नेनॆन्तटिवाडनु तण्ड्री ॥ पलुके बङ्गारमायॆना ॥

Meaningकितना भी गिड़गिड़ाऊँ, तनिक भी दया नहीं आती। पर तुमसे हठ करनेवाला मैं होता ही कौन हूँ, पिता?

Meaningक्या तुम 'शरणागतत्राण' — शरण में आए हुओं के रक्षक — की उपाधि धारण नहीं करते? करुणा करो, हे भद्राचल के स्वामी, अपने रामदास के पालक!

इरवुग इसुकलोन पॊरलिन उडुत भक्तिकि करुणिञ्चि ब्रोचितिवनि नॆर नम्मितिनि तण्ड्री ॥ पलुके बङ्गारमायॆना ॥

Meaningजब नन्ही गिलहरी (तुम्हारे सेतु के लिए) भक्ति से बालू में लोटती रही, तो तुमने द्रवित होकर उसकी रक्षा की — यही जानकर मैंने तुम पर पूरा भरोसा किया, पिता।

राति नातिग चेसि भूतलमुन प्रख्याति चॆन्दितिवनि प्रीतितो नम्मिति तण्ड्री ॥ पलुके बङ्गारमायॆना ॥

Meaningतुमने पत्थर को नारी (अहल्या) बना दिया और सारी धरती पर ख्याति पाई — प्रीति से मैंने उसी पर विश्वास रखा, पिता।

Source: Kirtana of Bhadrachala Ramadasa, popularly in raga Ananda Bhairavi, Adi tala (Telugu, 17th century CE)

Author: Bhadrachala Ramadasa (Kancherla Gopanna)

Period: c. 1620-1688 CE

Gopanna the tahsildar built Rama a temple at Bhadrachalam with six lakh varahas of tax money, and the Sultan cast him into the Golconda fortress. Through twelve years of chains, the saint kept singing to the deity he had enthroned. In this kirtana his ache turns playful and piercing at once: the Lord's speech, once so freely given to squirrels and stones, has now become 'gold' — too precious, it seems, for his own Ramadasa.
