Mukunda Mala Stotra (independent devotional work of the Sri Vaishnava / Alwar tradition) · Kulasekhara Alwar (Kulasekhara Perumal) · c. 9th century CE
Kulasekhara was a king of the Chera dynasty of Kerala and a passionate devotee of Lord Vishnu. So absorbed was he in the stories of the Lord that he is said to have once readied his army to rush to Rama's aid while a Ramayana recitation was in progress. Eventually he renounced his kingdom to live as a devotee and is revered as one of the twelve Alwars. The Mukunda Mala is his outpouring of love, a garland of verses asking for nothing but eternal devotion to Mukunda's feet.

It is traditionally held that King Kulasekhara's devotion was so complete that he placed his hand into a pot believed to hold a venomous serpent to prove the purity of his Brahmana devotees, and was unharmed by the Lord's grace. Devotees believe that one who recites the Mukunda Mala with sincere love will, like its author, remember the Lord's feet even at the final moment and attain His supreme abode.

ഏതെങ്കിലും വരിയിലോ ▶ ബട്ടണിലോ തൊട്ട് കേൾക്കൂ
വന്ദേ മുകുന്ദമരവിന്ദദലായതാക്ഷം കുന്ദേന്ദുശങ്ഖദശനം ശിശുഗോപവേഷമ്। ഇന്ദ്രാദിദേവവനിതാകൃതവന്ദനാങ്ഘ്രിം ദ്വന്ദ്വാരവിന്ദമമലം മനസാ സ്മരാമി॥
vande mukundam aravinda-dalāyatākṣaṃ kundendu-śaṅkha-daśanaṃ śiśu-gopa-veṣam | indrādi-deva-vanitā-kṛta-vandanāṅghriṃ dvandvāravindam amalaṃ manasā smarāmi ||
അർഥം:मैं मुकुन्द की वन्दना करता हूँ, जिनके नेत्र कमल-दल के समान विशाल हैं, जिनके दाँत कुन्द-पुष्प, चन्द्रमा और शंख के समान उज्ज्वल हैं, जो बाल-गोप के वेष में हैं, जिनके चरणों की इन्द्रादि देवों की पत्नियाँ वन्दना करती हैं; उन निर्मल चरण-कमलों का मैं मन से स्मरण करता हूँ।
ശ്രീവല്ലഭേതി വരദേതി ദയാപരേതി ഭക്തപ്രിയേതി ഭവലുണ്ഠനകോവിദേതി। നാഥേതി നാഗശയനേതി ജഗന്നിവാസേ- ത്യാലാപനം പ്രതിപദം കുരു മേ മുകുന്ദ॥
śrī-vallabheti varadeti dayā-pareti bhakta-priyeti bhava-luṇṭhana-kovideti | nātheti nāga-śayaneti jagan-nivāse- ty ālāpanaṃ prati-padaṃ kuru me mukunda ||
അർഥം:हे मुकुन्द! मुझसे प्रत्येक पद पर यह पुकार कराइए — 'हे श्रीवल्लभ! हे वरद! हे दयालु! हे भक्तप्रिय! हे संसार-बन्धन को हरने में निपुण! हे नाथ! हे शेषशायी! हे जगन्निवास!'
ജയതു ജയതു ദേവോ ദേവകീനന്ദനോഽയം ജയതു ജയതു കൃഷ്ണോ വൃഷ്ണിവംശപ്രദീപഃ। ജയതു ജയതു മേഘശ്യാമലഃ കോമലാങ്ഗോ ജയതു ജയതു പൃഥ്വീഭാരനാശോ മുകുന്ദഃ॥
jayatu jayatu devo devakī-nandano 'yaṃ jayatu jayatu kṛṣṇo vṛṣṇi-vaṃśa-pradīpaḥ | jayatu jayatu megha-śyāmalaḥ komalāṅgo jayatu jayatu pṛthvī-bhāra-nāśo mukundaḥ ||
അർഥം:इन देवकीनन्दन की जय हो, जय हो! वृष्णिवंश के दीपक कृष्ण की जय हो, जय हो! मेघ के समान श्याम, कोमल अंगों वाले की जय हो, जय हो! पृथ्वी का भार हरने वाले मुकुन्द की जय हो, जय हो!
മുകുന്ദ മൂര്ധ്നാ പ്രണിപത്യ യാചേ ഭവന്തമേകാന്തമിയന്തമര്ഥമ്। അവിസ്മൃതിസ്ത്വച്ചരണാരവിന്ദേ ഭവേ ഭവേ മേഽസ്തു ഭവത്പ്രസാദാത്॥
mukunda mūrdhnā praṇipatya yāce bhavantam ekāntam iyantam artham | avismṛtis tvac-caraṇāravinde bhave bhave me 'stu bhavat-prasādāt ||
അർഥം:हे मुकुन्द! सिर झुकाकर मैं आपसे केवल इतना ही माँगता हूँ — आपकी कृपा से जन्म-जन्म में आपके चरण-कमलों की स्मृति मुझे कभी न भूले।
നാഹം വന്ദേ തവ ചരണയോര്ദ്വന്ദ്വമദ്വന്ദ്വഹേതോഃ കുമ്ഭീപാകം ഗുരുമപി ഹരേ നാരകം നാപനേതുമ്। രമ്യാരാമാമൃദുതനുലതാ നന്ദനേ നാപി രന്തും ഭാവേ ഭാവേ ഹൃദയഭവനേ ഭാവയേയം ഭവന്തമ്॥
nāhaṃ vande tava caraṇayor dvandvam advandva-hetoḥ kumbhī-pākaṃ gurum api hare nārakaṃ nāpanetum | ramyā-rāmā-mṛdu-tanu-latā nandane nāpi rantuṃ bhāve bhāve hṛdaya-bhavane bhāvayeyaṃ bhavantam ||
അർഥം:हे हरि! मैं आपके चरणों में न तो मोक्ष के लिए वन्दना करता हूँ, न भयंकर कुम्भीपाक नरक से बचने के लिए, न नन्दन वन में सुन्दर कोमलांगी स्त्रियों के साथ रमण के लिए; अपितु प्रत्येक अवस्था में अपने हृदय-भवन में मैं आपका ही ध्यान करूँ।
നാസ്ഥാ ധര്മേ ന വസുനിചയേ നൈവ കാമോപഭോഗേ യദ്യദ്ഭവ്യം ഭവതു ഭഗവന് പൂര്വകര്മാനുരൂപമ്। ഏതത്പ്രാര്ഥ്യം മമ ബഹുമതം ജന്മജന്മാന്തരേഽപി ത്വത്പാദാമ്ഭോരുഹയുഗഗതാ നിശ്ചലാ ഭക്തിരസ്തു॥
nāsthā dharme na vasu-nicaye naiva kāmopabhoge yad yad bhavyaṃ bhavatu bhagavan pūrva-karmānurūpam | etat prārthyaṃ mama bahu-mataṃ janma-janmāntare 'pi tvat-pādāmbhoruha-yuga-gatā niścalā bhaktir astu ||
അർഥം:न धर्म में, न धन-संचय में, न काम-भोग में मेरी आस्था है। हे भगवन्! पूर्वकर्म के अनुरूप जो होना हो, वह हो। जन्म-जन्मान्तर में भी मेरी यही प्रिय प्रार्थना है — आपके चरण-कमल-युगल में मेरी अचल भक्ति बनी रहे।
ദിവി വാ ഭുവി വാ മമാസ്തു വാസോ നരകേ വാ നരകാന്തക പ്രകാമമ്। അവധീരിതശാരദാരവിന്ദൌ ചരണൌ തേ മരണേഽപി ചിന്തയാമി॥
divi vā bhuvi vā mamāstu vāso narake vā narakāntaka prakāmam | avadhīrita-śāradāravindau caraṇau te maraṇe 'pi cintayāmi ||
അർഥം:हे नरकान्तक! स्वर्ग में हो, पृथ्वी पर हो, अथवा नरक में ही — मेरा निवास कहीं भी हो। मरण के समय भी मैं शरद् के कमल को भी तिरस्कृत करने वाले आपके चरणों का ही चिन्तन करूँ।
കൃഷ്ണ ത്വദീയപദപങ്കജപഞ്ജരാന്തേ അദ്യൈവ മേ വിശതു മാനസരാജഹംസഃ। പ്രാണപ്രയാണസമയേ കഫവാതപിത്തൈഃ കണ്ഠാവരോധനവിധൌ സ്മരണം കുതസ്തേ॥
kṛṣṇa tvadīya-pada-paṅkaja-pañjarānte adyaiva me viśatu mānasa-rāja-haṃsaḥ | prāṇa-prayāṇa-samaye kapha-vāta-pittaiḥ kaṇṭhāvarodhana-vidhau smaraṇaṃ kutas te ||
അർഥം:हे कृष्ण! मेरे मन रूपी राजहंस आज ही आपके चरण-कमल रूपी पिंजरे में प्रवेश कर जाए; क्योंकि प्राण-प्रयाण के समय कफ-वात-पित्त से कण्ठ अवरुद्ध हो जाने पर आपका स्मरण कहाँ सम्भव होगा?

मुकुन्दमाला स्तोत्रम् പാരായണ വിധി
Bathe and sit calmly facing east before an image of Lord Vishnu or Krishna. Light a lamp, and recite the verses slowly with feeling, dwelling on the meaning of each prayer for devotion. The hymn may be read in full as a single 'garland' or contemplated verse by verse. Conclude by offering the whole recitation at the Lord's lotus feet, praying only for unwavering bhakti.
