Meaning

This is one of the most celebrated phala-shruti (fruit-of-recitation) verses of the Durga Saptashati, spoken by the Goddess herself in Chapter 12. She promises that whoever hears or recites her Mahatmya with devotion — especially at the great autumn worship — will, by her grace, be released from every obstacle and blessed with wealth and abundance. The closing 'na samshayah' (there is no doubt) seals the assurance.

Origin & Story

Durga Saptashati Chapter 12 · Sage Markandeya (Rishi Markandeya) · Ancient (c. 400–600 CE, Markandeya Purana)

As told in scripture

Countless devotees through the ages have recited this verse during distress and at the close of Saptashati paath, testifying that obstacles dissolved and prosperity returned to their homes — fulfilling the Goddess's own pledge, 'na samshayah,' there is no doubt.
