Tyagaraja, the great devotee of Lord Rama, composed five 'gem' kritis (Pancharatna), each a garland of charanams in a single raga. 'Jagadananda Karaka' in raga Nata is the first of the five. In it the saint pours out, almost entirely in Sanskrit, an unbroken stream of the names and glories of Rama — hailing Him as the joy of the worlds, the King of kings, the ocean of virtues — making the kriti both a hymn and a litany of the holy name.

It is told that Lord Rama Himself appeared to Tyagaraja and that the saint's kritis flowed by direct grace. Each year at his Aradhana, hundreds of musicians on the banks of the Kaveri sing the five Pancharatna kritis in unison, beginning with 'Jagadananda Karaka', and devotees feel the very presence of Rama descend with the music.

ਅਰਥ:जय हो आपकी, हे समस्त जगत् को आनंद देने वाले, हे जानकी (सीता) के प्राणों के स्वामी! (यह त्यागराज की पाँच पंचरत्न कृतियों में प्रथम और प्रमुख है, राग नाट में — लगभग पूर्णतः भगवान राम के नामों और महिमाओं से गुँथी एक माला।)

ਅਰਥ:हे निष्पाप; अमरों के कुमुद-समूह को आनंदित करने वाले पूर्ण चंद्र-समान; हे देवों के दिव्य कल्पवृक्ष; हे क्षीरसागर-निवासी; हे परम सुंदर मुख वाले, जिनका प्रत्येक वचन अमृतमय है; हे गोविंद, आनंदपूर्ण, अपने जनों के आश्रय और बंधु, अनंत कल्याण के कर्ता!

ਅਰਥ:हे वेद-कमल से उत्पन्न अमृत के पोषक; हे देवों के शत्रु-रूपी मेघों को बिखेरने वाले पवन; हे पक्षिराज (गरुड़) को वाहन रूप में धारण करने वाले; हे सत्कवियों के हृदय में वास करने वाले; हे अगणित वानर-प्रमुखों से पूजित; हे सागर से उत्पन्न और वेदों के मुकुट-कलश में संजोई लक्ष्मी के रक्षक। हे त्यागराज से स्तुत राम — जय हो आपकी!
