In the Devi Mahatmya, the gods, oppressed by the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha, pray to the Goddess. From the body of Parvati emerges the radiant Kaushiki, who, as Vindhyavasini, takes her seat upon the Vindhya mountains and destroys the demon hosts including Chanda, Munda, Shumbha and Nishumbha. This stotram celebrates that ever-victorious Mother of the Vindhyas, whose shrine at Vindhyachal is one of the most revered Shakti Peethas of northern India.

అర్థం:जो त्रिशूल एवं असुरों के मुण्ड (मस्तक) धारण करती हैं, पृथ्वी के संकट का हरण करती हैं, तथा घर-घर में निवास करती हैं — उन विन्ध्यवासिनी का मैं भजन करता हूँ।
దరిద్రదుఃఖహారిణీ సదా విభూతికారిణీ। వియోగశోకహారిణీ భజామి విన్ధ్యవాసినీమ్॥౩॥

అర్థం:जो दरिद्रता और दुःख का हरण करती हैं, सदा वैभव प्रदान करती हैं, तथा वियोग और शोक को दूर करती हैं — उन विन्ध्यवासिनी का मैं भजन करता हूँ।
లసత్సులోలలోచనాం లసత్సులోలకున్తలామ్। లసత్సులోలకుణ్డలాం భజామి విన్ధ్యవాసినీమ్॥౪॥

అర్థం:जिनके सुन्दर चंचल नेत्र सुशोभित हैं, जिनके मनोहर केश लहराते हैं, तथा जिनके सुन्दर कुण्डल झलकते हैं — उन विन्ध्यवासिनी का मैं भजन करता हूँ।
కరాబ్జదానవాదినీం భయార్తరక్షయాకరీమ్। సులోచనాం సుదోచనీం భజామి విన్ధ్యవాసినీమ్॥౫॥

అర్థం:जो अपने करकमल से दानवों का संहार करती हैं, भय से पीड़ितों की रक्षा करती हैं, वे सुनयना सुन्दरी — उन विन्ध्यवासिनी का मैं भजन करता हूँ।
సునాసికాం సులోచనాం సుకర్ణరత్నభూషిణీమ్। సుకేశపాశశోభినీం భజామి విన్ధ్యవాసినీమ్॥౬॥

అర్థం:जिनकी नासिका सुन्दर है, नेत्र मनोहर हैं, कर्ण रत्नों से भूषित हैं, तथा केशपाश सुशोभित हैं — उन विन्ध्यवासिनी का मैं भजन करता हूँ।
రమేతి విశ్వవన్దినీం శివేతి సిద్ధగాయినీమ్। భజామి భక్తభావినీం భజామి విన్ధ్యవాసినీమ్॥౭॥

అర్థం:जिन्हें समस्त विश्व 'रमा' (लक्ष्मी) कहकर वन्दना करता है तथा सिद्धगण 'शिवा' कहकर गान करते हैं, जो भक्तों के भाव से प्रसन्न होती हैं — उन विन्ध्यवासिनी का मैं भजन करता हूँ।

विन्ध्येश्वरी स्तोत्रम् పారాయణ విధి
Sit facing the direction of the Vindhyachal shrine or before an image of the Goddess, light a lamp, and recite the seven verses with attention to the closing refrain 'Bhajami Vindhyavasinim' in each. It may be chanted once, thrice or nine times. Begin with a bow to the Goddess and conclude with prayers for protection and the welfare of all.
