Rama, who in the Ramayana repeatedly rescued the helpless — the sages of the Dandaka forest, Sugriva, Vibhishana and Sita herself — from the gravest dangers, is invoked here as Apaduddharana, the deliverer from calamity. The opening verse, declaring him 'the remover of all calamities and the giver of all prosperity', became one of the most beloved daily prayers in Hindu households, recited for protection in difficulty and customarily added at the close of the Vishnu Sahasranama parayana.
✦ ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରରେ କୁହାଯାଇଥିବା ପରି
Devotees across generations have turned to the verse 'Apadam apahartaram' in moments of sudden danger — illness, accidents, lawsuits, journeys through peril — and recount how steadfast repetition of these words, surrendering the crisis to Rama, has again and again opened an unexpected way out of trouble.

ଯେକୌଣସି ଧାଡ଼ି କିମ୍ବା ▶ ବଟନ୍ ଛୁଇଁ ଶୁଣନ୍ତୁ
ଆପଦାମପହର୍ତାରଂ ଦାତାରଂ ସର୍ଵସମ୍ପଦାମ୍ । ଲୋକାଭିରାମଂ ଶ୍ରୀରାମଂ ଭୂଯୋ ଭୂଯୋ ନମାମ୍ଯହମ୍ ॥ ୧॥

ଅର୍ଥ:जो समस्त आपदाओं को हरने वाले, समस्त सम्पदाओं को देने वाले, लोकों को आनन्द देने वाले श्रीराम हैं — उन्हें मैं बार-बार प्रणाम करता हूँ।
ଆର୍ତାନାମାର୍ତିହନ୍ତାରଂ ଭୀତାନାଂ ଭୀତିନାଶନମ୍ । ଦ୍ଵିଷତାଂ କାଲଦଣ୍ଡଂ ତଂ ରାମଚନ୍ଦ୍ରଂ ନମାମ୍ଯହମ୍ ॥ ୨॥
Artanam-Arti-Hantaram Bhitanam Bhiti-Nashanam | Dvishatam Kala-Dandam Tam Ramachandram Namamy-Aham || 2||
ଅର୍ଥ:जो आर्तजनों की पीड़ा को नष्ट करने वाले, भयभीतों के भय को मिटाने वाले, और शत्रुओं के लिए साक्षात् कालदण्ड हैं — उन रामचन्द्र को मैं प्रणाम करता हूँ।

ଅର୍ଥ:कोदण्ड धनुष हाथ में धारण किए, बाण को संधान किए हुए, समस्त दैत्यों का खण्डन करने वाले, समस्त आपत्तियों के निवारक श्रीराम को नमस्कार है।
ରାମାଯ ରାମଭଦ୍ରାଯ ରାମଚନ୍ଦ୍ରାଯ ଵେଧସେ । ରଘୁନାଥାଯ ନାଥାଯ ସୀତାଯାଃ ପତଯେ ନମଃ ॥ ୪॥

The first verse, repeated alone, is a celebrated daily prayer for protection and prosperity
Dispels fear and grief, invoking Rama as the destroyer of affliction (arti-hantaram)
Bestows all-round prosperity (dataram sarva-sampadam) along with protection
Traditionally chanted after the Vishnu Sahasranama to seal worship with Rama's protective grace
Strengthens faith in Sri Rama as the ever-present refuge in times of trouble
श्रीराम आपदुद्धारण स्तोत्रम् ପାଠ ବିଧି
Sit facing an image of Sri Rama and recite all four verses with devotion. In times of acute danger or worry, the first verse 'Apadam apahartaram' may be repeated 11, 21 or 108 times as a protective japa, holding the difficulty in mind and surrendering it to Rama. Many devotees chant this stotra immediately after the Vishnu Sahasranama as the concluding prayer.
