Instructions
Sit facing east or north before an image of Durga or Lakshmi after bathing. Light a lamp and recite this verse from the Shakradi Stuti with devotion, ideally 11 or 108 times, contemplating the Goddess as the fortune of the home and the wisdom of the heart. It may be chanted on its own or within a full reading of Durga Saptashati Chapter 4.
Spiritual Significance
Tradition holds that households where this verse of the Shakradi Stuti is recited with sincerity during Navaratri are blessed by Lakshmi's presence, with want and misfortune (Alakshmi) departing as the Goddess takes up residence as the family's fortune.
Origin & History
Source: Durga Saptashati Chapter 4
Author: Sage Markandeya (Rishi Markandeya)
After the Goddess Durga vanquished Mahishasura at the end of Chapter 3, Indra and the host of gods offered the Shakradi Stuti in Chapter 4 of the Devi Mahatmya. In this verse they recognise the Devi as Shri herself in the homes of the good, as discrimination in the wise, and as faith and modesty in the noble — extolling her as the inner power behind every virtue and all good fortune.
